Used to refill them in a photo lab. They started putting steel and ceramic plugs in the fill ports if you tried to refill them you’d either pierce the plastic wall and it would drain out or dry up. Or it would sense that it was “empty” and refuse to work again. Eventually we got rid of the machine because it wasn’t worth it anymore.

Currently saving for a laser printer - always been a sporadic printer and those cartridges always dried out - worse were the older models that wouldn't let you print if any of them were showing as empty - manufacturers totally getting money for nothing on the refills.

I remember printing over 300 coloring pages when I was in elementary school for my classmates. My dad was annoyed that I was using up his paper... the ink ribbon wasn't even a thought to him. That's how much they are cheating people.

That's exactly what my friend did in college. He would buy a cheap newer printer and just throw out the old one whenever he ran out of ink.

I recently bought a refill kit with 2x100ml bottles of black ink and 3 bottles of different colour ink, which is enough to refill my 301 cartridges like 20 times for less than the price of one new official 301 cartridge or 2 aftermarket ones. Loving it so far.

Im running a refillable ecotank Epson printer. Been using 3 dollar ink refills for a whole now and I'm still happy. Conclusion - dont buy cheap printers that run on cartridges.

Yep its true, and ive done it (will never do it again). I once bought a new printer because it was cheaper to buy a new canon printer with ink than just the ink itself, it even came with a bonus large print cartridge, so was about half the price.

Also, if the cartridge runs out of just one color it stops printing. Forcing you to buy a new cartridge and waste the rest of the other colors left. Try to buy a printer that either has individual cartridges for each color, or go with a laser printer

The chips also recognize if it's empty after that point you can fill it up and still it will not work anymore. So there's a easy way make a hole in it and then you can fill it up again and again and again and cartridge goes forever(with cheap ink)🎉

i used to buy 1 litre bottles from OCP inks Germany, they use the correct formula for your printer model.

This reminds me of a story a teacher once told me of a time he went down to mexico and had to stop at an electronics store, the dumpster on the side of the building was full of brand new printers. When he asked inside why it was so, he was told because it was cheaper to buy a new printer for the ink that came with it than to buy replacement ink.
