Conventional wisdom says you’ll save money by eating at home, rather than going out to restaurants. But according to the Labor Department, grocery prices rose by 13.1% in July from a year before, whereas restaurant prices were up 7.6%. So is it now cheaper to dine out than eat at home?

the problem is many men and women don't want to cook or learn to cook from scratch ..
2adults
3 kids can eat
lasagna or main entrees
salad
garlic bread ice cream
coca cola
At a nice Italian restaurant 80+tax 10.5%+tip about 105-120$
Lasagna dinner at home same items cost about 25$ depending on how meaty you like you lasagna.

which is cheaper: eating out vs cooking at home. The answer depends on where u live, what you eat, and how many people you are feeding. If you live in expensive cities like San Francisco or New York City, then groceries may be more expensive than other small towns. If you eat fast food and nothing else, it's cheaper to eat out than cook at home. If you live alone the incentive to cook is not so attractive compared to a large family of 5. So it really depends on your own individual circumstances.

For $20 I can make a delicious spaghetti Bolognese that will provide around 5-6 meals. For that price at a restaurant I’m only getting one dish, not to mention that you have to tip and it’s usually less tasty

I tend to waste less when eating out. Cooking at home requires a lot of ingredients that can go unused so it’s only worth it to cook simple meals you don’t mind eating daily or frequently and leave the more complex dishes to the restaurants.

Cooking at home is way cheaper, that’s a stupid question.

No way. For me is cheaper to cook at home, plus I get stomach pain most of the time I eat out and I am very picky with my meals flavors, so making a budget and planning week meals works better for me.

We trained ourselves to treat home cooking with reverence and expect restaurant food to be fast, cheap and tasty. Frankly, if you want to be healthy you’re never going to get there if you don’t focus on your food.

Going out to eat in some bustling metropolis restaurant is usually two-fold....enjoying the meal at the same time practicing situational awareness...

Eating at home is 100% cheaper. This isn't even a question. People who think eating at home is more expensive can't stay away from soda, cupcakes and chips. I eat 2800 calories a day on less than $7 a day. I also don't eat packaged crap like 50% of obese America.

These studies were done by the restaurant industry.. of course they are going to say it’s cheaper lol!
All of you are so gullible !!!
Believe anything you hear… I can still buy a TBone steak baked potato and make it at home a heck of a lot cheaper than a sit down restaurant and not have to pay a huge outrageous tip

I came down to San Diego and the cost of food at Ralph's is so much lower than ralphs in Hollywood. I purchased three full bags of groceries for $53 that would normally cost $90+ at Rock N Ralph's. Even the $5 precut fruit containers are bigger in SD. Unbelievable

It’s because people try and make these tik tok meals with 50 ingredients, or process foods, stick to some chicken rice beans, steak rice and veggies, some pasta and sausage
