The almost Game Boy Switch

The Retron SQ offers a way to play your game boy, game boy color, and GBA (kind of) games all on your TV via HDMI! I was hoping this could be a way to treat my Gameboy games like a Switch, but it doesn’t quite work out that way.

I'm so happy I got a gameboy player for my GameCube for $30 with disc. Got the GameCube for free so honestly that was the bargain of a lifetime back in 2009.

4:03 Just to clarify that the only expensive part of the gameboy player is the software disc. The actual adapter (literally a gameboy advance that plugs under your gamecube, so no emulation) is pretty cheap and with Swiss (a homebrew software for gc), you can either boot the original startup disc via sd card or you could use the gameboy interface, a way better software than the one Nintendo made. This is the best way to play gameboy games on your television.

I don't mind the "blowing into the cartridge" thing, honestly. It's not that bad at all for the cartridge. I never had a SINGLE game stop working because of it and boy, my shit would get literally covered in spittle. They built that stuff to last back then...

Lately I've been thinking that a lot of people say that more as a gatekeepery thing, you know? Like, it's just a harmless but satisfying call out that's less about educating someone, and more about "pfff you didn't know that?"

If you use USB keyboard you can hit F1 and go into setting menu and change many things. Like frame skip being on 8. Then GBA games are more like they should be. It uses Retro Arc is why.

I guarantee if Nintendo did this and re-released the cartridges they would be rolling in dough. Currently have all my old-school GB Classic GBA and DS cartridges

The frame rate has been fixed with an update. See Roxolid Productions on youtube for the link. With the update from Hyperkin and the link from Roxolid, the GBA experience is very good. Roxolid shows how to do both. It is really not a way to launch a product with something like the GBA being broken out of the box. But I am totally enjoying this with the updates.

Also, keep in mind that the Analogue Pocket is coming out in the next couple of years and that not only can be played on the T.V. but they also made a new handheld that uses the same technology as the original Gameboy but with a backlight (ofc) and a whole bunch of different screen settings.

Once the GBA updates are final I think this would be great if you're someone who just wants to play some games in their living room. The deal breaker for me is the fact saves aren't done to the cartridge, I bring my modded GBA with me everywhere and as much as I love Pokemon I don't want to play through the same parts twice back-to-back.
