The fact is kids are pitching more than ever these days.

In fact, 30 years ago kids would put a baseball down for the better part of 5 months because there was no fall baseball or tournament baseball. After baseball it was summer vacation then football, soccer, basketball THEN back to baseball!

So obviously with kids pitching year around, they are putting tremendous stress on their elbows, shoulders, rotator cuffs and labrums even with the best of pitching mechanics.

Unfortunately the fact of the matter is MORE than 8 out of 10 kids throw with one or more mechanical deficiencies that lead them to risk serious injury.

There is no question that if your automobile is not in ideal maintenance condition and you drive it back and forth from coast to coast, it's going to breakdown.

Now lets say the car is out of alignment, or the oil hasn't been changed, or the transmission is slipping, or any number of things, you wouldn't dare try to drive that car from Houston to California.

So why is it that we continue to let our kids over pitch to win a tournament or little league game that means absolutely nothing when we aren't even sure if our child is even pitching safely?

Obviously because we don't think our kid is going to get seriously injured. And of course our coach who has him pitching every weekend over using him says our child has good mechanics but he can't tell you what good or bad mechanics are but you take his word for it.

Then certainly when he gets injured, and they all do because we know you can't drive your car forever without oil in the engine, you ask Coach what happened? He'll say something like pitching is a very stressful endeavor.

And your thinking, well if that's the case why didn't you take better care of my child's health?

Because all coach cares about is winning a meaningless tournament or little league game and not taking care of my kid.

The fact of the matter is you don't send your kid outside in cold weather without a jacket when he's 12 years old because that's bad parenting and irresponsible. So how is it responsible to let your kid pitch and pitch excessively if you don't even know he's doing it safely?

It's not. Parents need to educate themselves to protect their kids because they are the only ones who will protect their kids. Please think about that real hard.
