I am Western Rite (Roman) Catholic Christian and my brother is a Eastern Rite (Greek) Orthodox Christian. We both encourage each other in our walks in Christ all the time. I live (and converted) in Latin America. He lives (and converted) in the city we both grow up in and was drawn to the Greek Orthodox Church in town. May God reunite us entirely one day. Thank you for citing the Catechism. There's a lot of misunderstanding between the Orthodox and Roman Catholics and this is the way to correct those misunderstandings and repair the rupture in the Church.

May I ask why the Roman Catholic church holds to the Immaculate Conception of Mary if they indeed do not believe human beings are born as sinners?

Actually, they do believe we inherit the guilt of Adam's sin. That is literally part of the RCIA curriculum.

I'm a former Protestant, quickly becoming a Traditionalist Catholic, but I have such a heart for healing the Schism between the East & West of Christendom, I even attend as many Eastern Catholic parishes as I can access locally, because of that heart of Eastern Christianity...I also have a similar heart for reaching out to Protestants & drawing them closer to the Faith of the Ages, whilst still submitting to the See of Rome.

On the quote from Cyril of Alexandria, the last phrase does sound like hes saying we are guilty because of Adam's sin: " the whole nature of man became guilty in the person of him who was frst formed."
