Giant Encounters in the Old Americas

When European explorers and conquistadors came to the Americas, many encountered giants and recorded this as fact. From mighty chiefs to entire tribes, some New World goliaths were friendly while others thirsted for bloodshed. And Europeans weren’t the only ones to meet them… 500 years earlier, the Aztecs almost drove the giants to extinction.

PS: At 0:32, I messed up and said 1940 instead of 1540. And now I have the image stuck in my head of De Soto and his men walking around for 400 years. They must have passed through the Bermuda Triangle on their way to Florida...

I am Mexican and I just made a visit to Oaxaca, I visited Monte Alban, a city built by giant survivors of the flood high in the mountains. The steps are not proportional to a human body. Thank you for sharing this information, I send you my best regards.

You have to be the best history/story teller on YouTube. My daughter loved the history and stories of our people. Stories that have been passed down from generations. I love the way you put everything g together . Wasn't "cheesy" at all, and believe me, my daughter and I for years have watched many videos that just left out so much information, and also, there wasn't much we learned but your videos WOW!! WE LEARNED SO MUCH, AND YOU validated what we already knew. The respect of how you told everything was very heartfelt, and I believe all who watch your videos feel the same way.. thank you for all your hours and days, and God knows all the effort that you put in to get everything so accurate. We all thank you.

For a moment, my sister and I were speculating about giants and pyramids in ancient civilizations. I'm glad for the chance to share this wealth of info with her.

As a retired history teacher on this topic, I find your work historically accurate and compelling. I enjoyed this piece tremendously and look forth to watching all your works in the near future. I would love to see sequels on this subject and would hope to see some more information on the Aztec journey from possibly the southwestern US TO MEXICO. I found the linking up to the local giants of particular interest as I had always wondered who allied with the Aztecs during their conquest wars with local native inhabitants in Mexico. Thank you for this well produced documentary.

Having lived in Mexico for 3 years as a kid, I can tell you that it is a very different place. Mythology is never far from every day life and if you leave the big cities a great deal seems possible.

Great narrative. Giants 101, by a brilliant professor. Learned a lot. Thank you, Prof. Mythos!

sequel please! there were also tales of giants in the Northern Americas as well, Alaska, Canada, etc... in many cases, they were linked with people disappearing & cryptids. wild stuff!

I live in North Alabama right next to the Tennessee river and we have giant mounds everywhere. People used to dig around in them and several "giant" artifacts have been discovered, but now if you are caught digging, you get put under the jail.

I ABSOLUTELY want a second video! I ALWAYS want a second video! You do the most superb job of presenting information without bias and without boredom. I look forward to every single one of your videos and also tend to repeat view videos because there's so much information in them you could miss it the first time. Thank you for everything that you do & please keep up the fantastic work. There isn't another channel like yours out there.

It's amazing how almost all ancient cultures with no connection to each other, have stories of giants and of a great flood.

Kudos to Mr. Mythos for keeping the flame of curiosity alive. Amazing content!

So interesting how the Aztecs just happened to have both a flood myth and a myth that sounds an awful lot like the tower of Babel. And the Kinametzin sound an awful lot like the Nephilim, who tried to fight god or in this case *the* gods.

The way I heard it 30 years or so ago in Louisiana history, was that DeSoto was badly injured in combat with the natives and he was dragged on a makeshift stretcher until he succumbed to his injuries. The natives followed close behind the conquistadors hoping to get hold of DeSoto's body. This was the reason why his body was placed inside a hollow log and dropped into a river. I think this explains why he wouldn't have been given a proper burial. As far as I know his body has never been found

One of my best friends in middle school and high school was native American and he was 7ft tall in 6th grade. He wasn't just tall, he was massive.

Loved this. Great work. Mr. Mythos I’ve come to hold your thorough research standard in regards above possibly all others; and the degree to which you familiarized yourself with the Aztec creation stories, despite being such a small video segment, is most appreciated.

It’s for this reason I’d like you to tackle the Tartaria subject. I’m not sold on all the theories but I think there’s more than enough there to raise eyebrows. I understand if this subject isn’t high on your list, however if you could begin investigating as a side project until you’ve deemed it worthy or unworthy of a deep dive I would appreciate your input.

Thanks.

Wow, I'm blown away by this. My great aunt Luisa used to talk a lot of crazy stuff when she was alive. We just thought that she was nuts. She was ancient and died at 122. I was a little kid, 7 or 8 when I heard her telling my sisters about the big people, and she had a pair of sandals that were about 2 feet from toe to heel that we had hanging in the pool cabana as decoration, I never thought that they might be real. Luisa had said that they had belonged to an old friend, nothing else that I know of. My family is decended from old Spain, settled in the Barriessa area of California. Now, I'm so whitewashed that I can barely order dinner in Spanish. But I'm for sure gonna go thru my sister's basement and look at those sandals and a bunch of family history that I never had any interest in until now.
