In today's video I explain the common misconception that athletes who naturally jump high don't train at all.

If you want to find out how the average athlete I train gains 4-7 inches of vertical in 6 months make sure to click here:

Isaiah, your recent law of specificity videos are making me realise that I need to actually jump more in order to actually jump higher and dunk better! Very useful piece of advice!

This is exactly me. I was over 40 inches standing back in the day and I started jumping when I was a kid hitting my head on the ceiling, then touching the lights in elementary school, then touching the net, the backboard, the rim, dunking a tennis ball, a volleyball, a girls basketball and finally a mens ball all before high school because I jumped ALL the time. It was my identity and in a way it still is. Great video really made me think/reminisce.

Oh, that guy is telling truth
Because I did 2-3 month training just stretching isos and jumped 200+ max effort jumps every single day
And played basketball
My tendons burned in hell, but vertical increased from 28-29 to 36 inches

Bro, this are literally what I think for many times. Finally someone competent of the stuff speak it out loud.

As someone with a decent vertical;

I haven't done any plyometrics, I just played basketball for 2-3 years and did did kickboxing. I have a 32inch vertical at 16 years old

I think youre pretty much right with everything you said. Especially the mental part. But I also think you overvalued the quantity of reps compared to the quality of reps. Genetic freaks arent only doing a higher amount of reps, but also do them with higher quality. Genetic qualities like rate coding, muscle fibre types, muscle growth capabilites and overall nervous system qualities can make each rep way more effective.

I had a 45 inch running vertical when i was 18. Im 6ft and white. Its too much to type out my program but ill give you my secret. Two weeks on and one week of complete rest. Whatever program you choose give it everything you have for two weeks then do absolutely nothing for one week. Its stupid to workout everyday and its even more stupid to never take time off. Not only does your body have to recover, it then has to grow. That takes time. I put 15 inches on my vertical in 3 months. Also, carbs and salt are very important. Your diet should be 50% carbs, 35% protein, 15% fat and salt everything you eat. I got to do all my dream dunks before i quit playing. I hope someone reads this and they get to do their dream dunks too.

I know Anthony height would always get people asking about his vert and he would say he doesn’t train or workout and I didn’t believe but now this video exists by the goat Isaiah.

This is a really great message.
A great book on this subject of how genetics plays a much smaller role than people tend to think + deconstructing how the greats got there if it wasn't through genetics is "Peak, How To Master Almost Anything"
