Finland to join Nato military alliance on Tuesday – BBC News

Finland will become the 31st member of Nato on Tuesday, the Western military alliance's secretary general has announced.

The application was prompted by the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, with which Finland shares a long border.

Finland's membership is one of the most important moments in Nato's recent history.

Turkey had delayed the application, accusing Finland of embracing Kurdish militants and allowing them to demonstrate on the streets of Stockholm.

Any Nato expansion needs the support of all its members.

As a Finn this is a monumental day. We will be as per Article 5 under 'the nuclear umbrella' of NATO. That means an attack to Finland means attack to NATO which means possible nuclear threat. Of course, we in Finland never ever want such a thing to happen.
Finland will bring our strong military knowledge, personnel and NATO-compatible army to NATO. ETA: To my knowlege the Finnish army by fighters (Hornets, FA-35), tanks and all other deterretns is the strongest in Europe(?)
ETA2: If anyone hasn't been to Finland, you can be assured now that we are a Western country.
