I think the reason why Ray Stantz couldn’t catch the ghostly trio, is because they broke his proton pack after they outsmarted him. You can tell at the tip of gun when a piece is nearly broken off.

Fun fact: Dan Aykroyd said in a interview that Casper is canon to the Ghostbusters series.
So given about what we know about Ghostbusters lore does that mean Maine is about to be a threshold for a large supernatural phenomenon. Does that make the manor a superconductive atena?
