M.E.109 was originally formed in 1978 by Tim Crowley, Simon Crewe, Mark Slinger and Thomas Graham. Tim and Mark were 18 years old and Simon 17.
• Tim - Lead, rhythm guitar, vocals
• Thomas Graham - Rhythm guitar, vocals
• Simon - Drums
• Mark - Bass guitar, vocals
Playing in local venues they established a strong following and used the money from gigs to fund studio time at Cargo Studios in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, England:
From a small market town in the North of England, it was difficult to attract interest from London based recording companies. Beggars Banquet Records got there first and with a distribution deal from WEA:
Newspapers reported their sound as “catchy sixties style music with witty lyrics” and “good breezy new wave power pop".
