I honestly am in awe of how pure 80s and divine this sounds. It sounds nostalgic and feels like a memory I've long forgotten.

There are two things that pop up in my head when this plays.

1). A scene from an 80s highschool romance movie where the two characters break up half way through the film.
2). An 80s music video filled with many flowing white sheets and at some point cuts to the beach at dusk.

That's an incredible, major improvement of chord pattern. The way the vocals ride on the bass and synth show presence of musical feel that wasn't in the original, this legitimately serenades. Gotye has proven he has a sense for direction in stuff like 'State of the Art's' chorus. But this took Somebody That I Used to Know in a genuine direction instead of quirky minimalism. I think this could have been an amazing soundtrack for a tragic thriller movie in the 80s that would've been as classic as Together in Electric Dreams.
