Dune REVIEW - A Sci-Fi Epic

Here are my thoughts on Dune!

Felt the same on the ending first time I watched it, and I had no Idea about the story beforehand, but when I watched it a second time I then reallly really liked the way it ended, because I saw it more like *MILD SPOILERS* Empire Strikes Back than A New Hope, in terms of story structure. It's like the first season of Game of Thrones: The Starks already start in a good position when we first get introduced, and there's even better things to come, but because of *SPOILERS* betrail and bad blood our main rolemodel gets killed which sends his son/sons and daughters on a dangerous new path. It's a tragedy that must happen for our lead(s) to become what the stories need them to be. The ending is the point of no return for Paul. The man who Paul *SPOILERS AGAIN* kills is shown in alot of Paul's visions, and you get why on second viewing, or maybe only I got why on second viewing :P

Amazing movie. Beautiful, powerful, mind-blowing. You should also read the book and then you'll understand the characters and the whole plot better. It's a very complex universe. It's very rich in lore and filled with lots of themes. It's not mainstream sci-fi. It's not star wars. It's a thought-provoking story set in a dystopian future. The reason you didn't connect with the characters is because the movie is plot-driven and not character-driven. The story can be a little confusing because It's non-liner and it's focused on the journey of Paul Atreides but this journey is narrated through a bunch of arcaic symbolism that is not easy to grasp if you're not familiar with the Dune lore. There are videos on youtube that can guide you through the movie symbolism which is what makes the movie really interesting and fascinating. It's not your avarage action-packed blockbuster hollywood flick. I love Dune with a passion. I've been a fan of Frank Herbert's saga for decades but I don't think it's for everyone.

FYI, your pronunciation of "Denis" is spot on, but "Ville-" is more like "veal", and "-neuve" is more like "dove" (the pidgeon).
Try saying "veal dove" a few times, then change out the D for an N.
