without "reasonable" part - what the difference between dominate and suggestion?

I kind of liked the restriction. It made me be more creative with how I used it, and as a DM it gave me bargaining power. "No reasonable shopkeep would give a random person their entire inventory. You're going to have to include something about you being royalty in there" to set up future hooks about how now this shopkeep genuinely believes they party are royalty and maybe gets arrested for blasphemy against the crown, setting up some conflict.

During our last major boss fight, mind flayer emperor has brought a Kua Toa that the party has met before. Which means we also knew what spells this one had (his name is Bob, and we love him) the mind flayer has also revealed that my wizard has a tad pole inside that's been dormant for 450 years cause of long reasons. So, before the fight begins I try to pull off a surprise attack. The DM doesn't always allow that since we were in talks, but I didn't cast am attack at the enemy so he let it. I casted Suggestion on the Kua Toa. "You want to grant my Wish" level 14 wizard and I got found a way to get Wish. He needed a wisdom 19 DC. Rolled a nat 20 on me, with -2 to wisdom. And I knew that since I've used Suggestion on Bob twice before. "All ilithed tadpoles should disappear from existence" Bob, "yeah those things are weird, bye tad poles" 😆 DM said he thought we would use the clerics Divine Intervention for it, but this was way better.

the old ruling was so harsh in some cases that it was almost worse than a persuasion attempt, because your spending a spell slot.

Spell is OP shouldn't be in D&D. Why play a charisma character and invest in persuasion or other skills when you can just use a second level spell slot to basically break the game better than any CHA class ever could. Its a gamebreaking spell.
