Dr. William Davis, The Keto Trap

Achieving ketosis and living a ketogenic lifestyle is a terrific way to accelerate weight loss, reverse health conditions such as type 2 diabetes and hypertension, and to improve mental and physical performance. But too many people are not aware that, because a ketogenic lifestyle means virtual elimination of carbs, you will deprive bowel flora of crucial prebiotic fibers.

Long-term deprivation of prebiotic fibers will lead to metabolic distortions such as higher blood sugar and blood pressure, insulin resistance, higher triglycerides, sleep and mood disturbances, abdominal pain, constipation, and increased risk for colorectal cancer. You MUST therefore address prebiotic fibers, as discussed in the Undoctored book.

About Undoctored:
We are entering a new age in which the individual has astounding power over health--but don't count on the doctor or healthcare system to tell you this.

We draw from the health information of the world, collaborate, share experiences, collect data, and show how to apply new health tools to achieve levels of health that you may have thought unattainable. We do all this at a time when conventional healthcare costs have become crippling.

The result: personal health that is SUPERIOR to that obtained through conventional means. We are Undoctored.

I made the mistake of going carnivore-FOR 5 YEARS I ate ZERO fiber and I am paying dearly for it. I developed leaky gut, my chronic constipation got worse, adrenal fatigue, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and chronic inflammation. I felt amazing on carnivore; I thought it was the way to eat. I have since learned my body was so stressed out that I had a ton of cortisol and adrenaline which is why I felt great, and also why my adrenals wore out. I had to stop EVERYTHING. I can’t work, I can’t exercise, I’ve gained 30 of the 35 pounds I lost back, and my life is a living hell. I realize I am fortunate to be alive, and that God has lead me to what will restore my health-FERMENTED FOODS. God bless you Dr. Davis.

He is so right. I was on Keto for 2wks and felt the effects of not being able to pass bile. I felt totally off. It had its benefits because I did lose weight, too much. Now I made me a broth soup with vegetables and onions and other herbs to get my biles moving again. I had to use an enema. KETO can be an enemy for some people. That old saying- everything is not for everybody.
I’m praying you listen to this Dr. and do what’s best for your body. Pray for me and I’ll pray for you. Blessings and Best Health everyone ❤

Not all greens are rich in prebiotics, that's what he is talking about. He advise us to consume Prebiotics through prebiotics rich fibres not just any FIBER.

I don't understand the logic. Ketogenic diet doesn't restrict to have carbs. We eat vegetables daily which have carbs. So how this is possible? All vegetables we eat have fiber like cucumber, kale, cabbage, cauliflower n so on....

Dr. Davis your wheat Belly book changed my life, earlier this year I was miserable and something had to give. I had been Prediabetic for more than 10 years and my weight was out of control and nothing helped. I started on a low carb low fat diet and moved to a ketogenic diet after 10 weeks and have been in ketosis for over 3 months. I have had bad acne and other symptoms you described in this video with being low carb such as low HDL after being retested 12 weeks into the program or being low carb. My LDL was fine but HDL was low and after 12 weeks off of carbs, my blood sugar went from 100 to 82 and my A1C went from 6 to 4.5 which shows the benefit of being off of sugar and grains.
Five months later I have lost over 70 lbs and have never felt better (55 to go) I am going to get a copy of undoctored as I do not want to do any harm to myself with the ketogenic program. It is funny I started a probiotic last week hoping it would help with the acne issue and it actually has cleared up a great deal in just one week. I will now start the prebiotic I bought off of your site and add in more fermented foods. I will refer to this issue in your book to make sure I manage this properly. Thank you and keep the videos coming, we need you as there are few out there willing to empower us. I refer people to your YouTube channel everyday. Your avid follower from Chicago.. Cindy
What I learned from all of this... that it is easy to stay away from the carbs and sugar when people ask me what will you eat I tell them meat and veggies and water. Because when you know better you do better right. I also test my blood sugar daily and more times a day when I introduce new foods.

6 years keto and none of these side effects have manifested. My HDL is high (70) my trigs are low (85), my fasting insulin is 4, zero constipation. Harder to respond to my higher chances of the diseases you mentioned since they aren’t really measurable.

Love your work and appreciate most of your messages but at least for me this information does not align with my life experiences.

Almost every keto doctor recommends supplements. All Dr. Davis is saying is to add a pre-biotic supplement. It probably wouldn't hurt, but it might not help either. To further clarify, a carnivore diet eliminates or highly restricts all vegetables. A keto diet allows a lot of certain vegetables and even some fruits, and therefore plenty of prebiotic fibre as well as fermented probiotic foods such as sauerkraut and kefirs. So make your choices.

I have been on keto for 2 years, and it is not zero carbs. I have vegetables daily. I also eat kimchi everyday to keep my gut biome healthy.

Great information. I’ve been traveling well on fasting and Keto, inclusive of lots of cruciferous veg & leafy greens. I’ve now included Tempeh, miso and sauerkraut. With many thanks 🙏I’m also booked in for a calcium scan.

How is it Dr. Davis that the Inuit thrived for thousands of years in the arctic with zero carbs. The first western explores reported them to be lean healthy and free of cancer and heart disease.

Cruciferous and leafy greens and salads are the prebiotics on keto. Add gum arabic and frankincense. Keep to those and do healthy keto and bowel flora will be more optimal than ever! Thanks Dr Davis I am eagerly waiting for your Undoctored book!

I recently cautioned someone about the effect of the keto diet on microbiome. The keto diet results in some health benefits because it is grain free and results in increased consumption of healthy fats, but is it healthy long term?

Those who practice clean keto might have sufficent prebiotic fiber in their diet, because carbs are net of fiber, making veggies allowed, but resistant starches have no fiber and will be avoided and microbiome will suffer.

Our focus should be on keeping our microbiome healthy by consuming sufficient prebiotic fiber and resistant starches.

How come there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate? Many people who have been on strict carnivore seem to do very well over many years. Just opening dialogue here because some say prebiotics are needed while some say it's not.

Yeah, I cannot eat plants. I’m one year carnivore and I never experienced anything like that. Go read the Fiber Menace, doc.

Nice fear mongering regarding gut flora. It’s amazing how people heal and thrive on the carnivore diet without fiber or any carbs from plants.

I had your book and the Fiber Menace written by Monastrysky. I tried carnivorous diet for 1 month. After transition period, i have no constipation. It proved the Singapore research in 2012 that no fiber could help constipation. Would u study it too?

Here’s the thing, not all body’s are made for Keto, not all body’s are made for carbs, they’re to 2 type of Keto diet one that is good for passive nervous sytem which can eat anything red meats and all that menu, most of the people try a keto diet that have excited nervous system should do it with white meats, white cheese, lot of veggies and no refine carbs, they’re 2 types of nervous sytem and should act accordingly to it.
