Why I'm Never Buying an Arduino Again: The Wio Terminal

Packed full of sensors, buttons, a color LCD screen, and Wi-Fi connectivity, the Wio Terminal from SeeedStudio is fantastic value and well documented. That makes it easy to get on with what's really important: making cool stuff.

I mean, it's cool and all, if you need those sensors/buttons/etc.... But an Arduino Uno clone is only like $5 to $10, and so are ESP32's. It would be stupid to spend $30 for this if you don't need those extra features.

Thanks for sharing, when we need a faster Cortex-M4 MCU(which is 10 times faster than UNO) and an LCD screen, This is the best solution for a reasonable $30 for sure

I found this video after I purchased one and was looking for more details. Great video. Looking forward to seeing more projects made on this device. I'm planning to make a Device that shows me Length, Width and Height of a box.

A nice guide for product, thank you. And happy to see Amstrad CPC-464, I still have one; my first computer. :):)

Great video! Thanks for the info.
I think I’ll stick with my Arduino for a bit, but this’ll definitely be something to check out one day. Looks real neat 🍷

Having an Arduino with a small screen for debugging would be nice

I'm more interested in your animated display in the background! Wish I knew where to get some of the graphics! I would love an idle pictures on my desk.

Proprietary connections? I will never touch that thing. I will continue to buy $3 Arduino clones.

Great review, thanks!! I've used Arduino, ChipKIT, and M5Stack in lots of embedded projects for testing products. Having the MCU, an enclosure, screen, and joystick is worth more than $30! I've paid $30 to get Adafruit's OLED+joystick shield. Then designed and 3D printed an enclosure to house it. :( I can see using the 40 pin header to "mount it" and then have the USB C ready to plug in.

Its a cute device, but the severe lack of pins bothers me a bit. You only get 8, and they share Digital and Analog. My current project uses 20. Id have to involve some complicated bitshift chips and stuff to get enough signals in and out.

Sure but the thing is that a lot of Arduino projects don’t need a screen or need a certain size. I like the Tinny personally as its 9 times faster than UNO, alot smaller and has more input pins.

This is a bit like deja vu. Didn't Microsoft & Apple destroy what makes this kind of thing fun in the 80s?

Very nice. It would be a perfect addition to a raspberry pi zero portable synthetizer, or a remote Info screen for home automation, etc. Could you compare it to a m5 stack?

what can we develop using this? software or hardware?

Looks interesting enough to play around with and could provide a quick way to get up and running with some projects. But way overkill for other projects. Just looks like another tool, you just just have to pick the best one for your project.

How loud is the buzzer? I might want to use it as a alarm terminal, showing alarm status. But it must be loud enough for people to notice.

Dislike for this exaggeration. Arduino HAS it's pros ;) Don't be so arrogant. This thing draws MUCH more power... You don't always need all this stuff.

I was just about to ask - what do you use it for, when he actually announces it as a viewer question. 😄
Can’t make this up...🙄

This seems a waste of time. What can you do with this if you can only connect specific items you have to buy?

yeah really nice and it seems in deed a very good deal, but while an ESP32 board from china is around 2 or 3$ : for smaller projects this is too much over the rim.
