Why I’m Never Buying Garlic Again🧄
Показать описание
I’m never buying garlic again because it’s one of the easiest crops to grow. You can grow one full bulb from one tiny clove. And if you do it before the first frost, it’ll be the first thing to sprout up in the Spring. Garlic needs cold temperatures to form big bulbs successfully (it’s a cold season crop), so that means right now is quite literally the best time to plant garlic and have it in abundance by the Spring.

Just get your hands on a bulb of garlic, break it into individual cloves, and plant them 4 inches deep, 4 inches apart in soil. Then all you have to do is wait for the winter to pass!
Thank you so much for watching this weeks video, let me know if you end up planting garlic before the winter comes in full force (at least for us Canadians!). Love you guys so much. Thanks again for watching.

Unique Facts You’ll Learn In This Video:
1. Garlic is one of the easiest crops to grow, but planting it before the first frost is essential because it needs cold temperatures to form big bulbs successfully (it’s a cold season crop).
2. Garlic plants produce flowers that can develop into seeds. However, most commercial garlic varieties often have flowers removed to encourage the plant to focus energy on bulb development rather than seed production.
3. The bigger the garlic clove planted, the bigger the bulb will grow come Spring time.
4. All parts of the garlic plant can be eaten and stored, even in its younger stage (“green garlic”). You may even use the green shoots (scapes) in dishes like pesto (Just ask Susie).
5. China is the largest producer of garlic worldwide. There have been concerns and reports about the use of untreated wastewater in the cultivation of garlic, which means garlic is grown in sewage water and soaked in chlorine (which is high in lead, heavy metals, and pathogens). Although not all garlic from China is grown like this, you can tell the real and fake garlic apart by looking at the roots on the bottom. Garlic from China has no roots and is very white in colour, whereas real garlic has roots and naturally occurring dark spots.
6. Garlic is known to have natural insect-repelling properties. It's often planted near other crops to help deter pests. This is called “companion planting,” which I chose to do in the garlic video with tomatoes.
7. Some gardeners use garlic spray as an organic insecticide. Just blend garlic, ginger and 1 cup of water. Then strain your mixture, add boiling hot water and chill peppers, let it sit overnight. In the morning, add to a shpritzer and spray around your plants as a barrier, and very lightly on your leaves.
