in this video, we look at the katsu portable pocket hole jig. I purchased this tool from eBay for £35.99p which for a tool of this quality is extremely good and combined with the accessories you get with it cannot go wrong

Looks like a decent bit of kit. I bit the bullet a few years ago and bought the Kreg. I love the tool.

I've got mine from another brand. I don't use it too much...but it's there when I do need it. Great buy!

Why oh why did I spend nearly £200 on the UJK system, admittedly I bought lots of screws and special clamps and it is a good one, but even so that's a big difference. For usefulness, pocket holes are good, whichever brand you use. With mine I made two high quality work benches, and boy are they strong. See Kreg for details. I like watching BIG BOYS DIY because he always does his research properly, and he always gets really interesting little tools at exceedingly good prices. We all owe him a big THANK YOU !

Good review. I don't know how available that is here in the states, but I'm hoping something else catches fire and gives Kreg a run for their money...it's crazy what they're asking for their products.

This is the same jig Harbor Freight sells in the U.S.. If you want a dust collector, take a shop vac crevice tool and push it in between the Back wall and v drill supports. Then Mark the center and cut a square or rectangular hole in the crevice tool and put a plug of wood in the thin end. Slide it back in the jig from either side and attach your vac hose. 👍 There is a U Tube video showing this on the Harbor Freight Jig.

I have seen a couple of reviews on YouTube for this Katsu PHJ and many have pointed out that the drill bit does seem to catch on the frame while drilling. Some had more metal filings than wood shavings. Not sure that's a good thing in the long run.

Hi Warren, just subscribed to your channel, good review. I have been looking for one of these and couldn't make up my mind, your review helped as did some of the comments below. Thank you.

Good review Warren. Great tip on the pan head screws over the Kreg ones. can we have an update once you've had it a while? Not got myself, so would like to see what you think after building a few things.

Great review Warren. I bought that single one you have on the bottom left of your images. I believe that was the top brand that people buy if they could afford them. That was why I only went for the single rather than table mounted, a price I couldn't justify. Lots of messing about measuring and clamping but I use it far less than you plan to. Think I've used it once on some shelves in the shed. I also only used normal wood screws too.

I think if I were to do more then I'd certainly consider something like you have.

The reason for raising the wood on the grub screws is that if you didn't the screw would come out the back of the wood you drilled rather than through the base where you join the pieces too. That's where with teh type I have you have to take all that into consideration for any hole you drill.

Well done!

A very thorough review and demo Darren. I've been looking at a pocket hole jig for some time but the Kreg set up is too expensive for my budget however the katsu looks like a very capable alternative. :-)

I looked at buying this from amazon on prime day, but I have the kreg pocket hole jig but the one without a clamp, so I decided against buying and will make a clamp jig up for the kreg one to sit in

Thanks Warren very informative no body shows these cheaper pocket hole jigs. I like many can't justify paying silly prices for top brands as you say to be left on the shelf only using now and again . This one looks a bargain, look forward to you using it for your table saw stand .
