15 Abnormally Large Animals That Actually Exist
When it comes to design, mother nature follows a set blueprint, well, most of the time. Sometimes she feels a bit more creative and ends up with very unusual creatures, some deformed, some unusually small, some mind bogglingly large, and it’s these large ones that will be talking about today.
From a great dane that’s taller than others of his kind to the biggest croc you’d probably see in your life, here are 15 Abnormally Large Animals That Actually Exist.

15. Zeus, the World’s Tallest Dog
Zeus, the gentle giant great dane, bagged the record for the world’s tallest dog in 2013. He stood 7 feet 4 inches when standing on his hind legs, that’s taller than most basketball players. Apparently his owners Denise and Kevin Doorlag, residents of Otsego, Michigan, received a lot of inquiries about whether or not their pet was actually a horse!
Unfortunately, the gentle giant died just three days before his sixth birthday. He was actually a qualified therapy dog, and in order to draw smiles from people, he usually sat on their laps. Which couldn’t have been comfortable because he weighed 155 pounds.

14. The Goliath Birdeater
To the right person, even a tiny spider is the stuff of nightmares. Thing is, spiders really aren’t all that bad, except those venomous ones, those guys can really give you a bad day. But just imagine showing any arachnophobe these dinner plate sized arachnids.
This particular spider called the Goliath Birdeater is, in fact, a tarantula, and while most people are not arachnophobic, I am pretty sure that they will be tarantula-phobic! Living in the South American rain forests, it could weigh up to an unbelievable 6 ounces or 175 grams, quite hefty considering the fact that spiders rarely weigh above a gram. Despite its designation as a “Birdeater,” it doesn’t actually feed on birds, but rather snakes, rodents, and toads.

13. Jeff, The World’s Largest Rabbit
When you see Jeff for the first time, you’ll probably do a double take and think that what you’re actually seeing is a dog. But when you move a bit closer and you see the unmistakable bunny ears, then you’ll realize that you’re looking at a rabbit, the world’s largest rabbit at that.
Jeff weighs an outstanding 42 pounds and measures 4 feet 5 inches tall. And it seems that size runs in his family as his dad, named Darius, is a bit shorter at 4 feet 4 inches but weighs a whopping 50 pounds.
The father-son duo are members of a giant rabbit species known as the Continental rabbits whose members usually reach a height of roughly four feet.
The two cute giants go through 700 apples and 2000 carrots every year, in addition to a bowl of rabbit food daily; which all cost Annette Edwards, their loving owner, close to £5000 every year.

12. The Chinese Giant Salamander
Growing to nearly six feet long and weighing roughly 140 pounds, Chinese Giant Salamanders are the largest amphibians in the world. Their beady, lidless eyes peer out from broad, flat heads with blunt snouts, and their mud-colored bodies have short limbs and long tails. The species’ slimy skin is not pleasant to pet, either.
There are about 5 species of giant salamander in the world, but humans might have already driven some of those species toward extinction. In their endemic habitat of rocky mountain streams and lakes in China, the critically endangered salamanders are threatened by poaching and human intervention.

11. Barivel, The World’s Longest Cat
Barivel, the Maine Coon, is the latest inductee to the hallowed hall of Longest domestic cats. When he was measured from head to tail tip on 22 May 2018, Barivel came in at 3 feet 11 inches. To put that length in context, that’s longer than a baseball bat.
This stretch feline lives with his mom Cinzia and dad Edgar in Vigevano, Italy. He’s turned into a bit of a celebrity there, especially when mom and dad takes him out for walks in his own buggy.

10. The African Giant Snail
If you this creature crawling in your cabbage patch and I’m sure you’ll be running away in sheer panic. The African Giant Snail is by far the largest snail in the world. They have an average lifespan of about 5-7 years but can live up to 10 years if they have plenty of food. Also, if they have plenty of food, they don’t stop growing. Some of these things have been measured at up to a foot in length.
They are considered to be one of the most harmful invasive species in the US.

I think it’s ridiculous to breed such a large dog the lifespan is so short. Who wants a dog that doesn’t live past eight years. My Whippet lived till 16 years I have tons of great memories:)
