Two things,

Firstly, I loved this. The original score, Luke finally lifting the X wing after all these years, that smirk that you KNOW is for the audience. I love it.

Secondly, WHY THE HELL IS THE GHOST OUT OF BREATH?!?

The Luke we should have had from the beginning of the Sequels. One of the few moments from that trilogy that puts a smile on my face everytime. 😊

As George Lucas put it perfectly, “The secret sauce to the Star Wars saga is John Williams brilliant composing and orchestra. This scene is nothing without emotions of 35years in the making. Beautiful scene 🎬 and score. 🎼

The return of the famous Red Five T-65B X-Wing that destroyed the first Death Star... Of course Luke would still swear by that thing, even as a Force ghost.

Yes, Luke's X Wing, known to have a high resistance towards water damage since 1980.

As much as I despised this film,
it was seeing people do film reactions, and enjoying it, that challenged me to revisit it over and over.

And It was during this sequence where it clicked.
The underlying theme, I had never picked up on.

When Luke asks Rey what she’s doing, he doesn’t ask in a stoic way like an all knowing force ghost,
But rather like he’s genuinely confused as to why she’s here.

The scene then becomes about both Rey and Luke, finding the answers to problems long unsolved, right next to them.

Because Rey showed up, Luke was able to pass on Leia’s saber.

Because the Wayfinder didn’t burn, Rey could still use it,

And because Rey needed a ship, Luke was able to prove to himself, that he was good enough to do what he couldn’t in Empire Strikes Back.

Rey being there, giving Luke that closure he didn’t have before.

The entire movie, whether intentionally or not, is full of characters finding the answers through the people and things that have been in their life the entire time, for evil, or for good.

While I’m not necessarily a believer in the supernatural,
There have been many times in my life where coincidences occurred that were just so bizarre, that I couldn’t help but consider a higher power or force was present.

In this film, Maybe it’s poor screenwriting, or maybe the fans of this movie choose to see the problems in the film, as questions to be answered for themselves.

If there’s any positive message to take away from this movie,
I think it’s the idea that the people you meet, things you find, and places you go, though inconsequential at one time, could mean everything later on. And when they do, it’s a reminder to the good that can happen when you open yourself to the world and accept what it gives you with an open mind, because it may be the thing that reminds you you’re a good person, when you’re doubting yourself.

Regardless of how bad this movie is, this is one of those beautiful moments.
The music also helped as well.

Unpopular opinion: this is the best scene in the sequels

That X-wing was Luke Skywalker's ship from his Jedi and rebel days.
100s of those ships made during the war between the Empire and the rebellion

As much as these movies suck, you gotta admit this was a damn good callback

I cried. The music and seeing Luke makes it come full circle. Say what you will about the sequels, but there were parts that were great

Even a Star Trek fan has to respect the other franchise for making it so.

Despite the controversies surrounding this movie, I think every Star Wars fan has to agree this was done incredibly well. Happy May 4th, 2024

Many people have debated what and who the title Rise of the Skywalker means, (or should) mean.

And the answer begins with Empire Strikes Back.

Luke’s biggest learning experience, comes from not being able to lift the weight of his X-Wing, because it’s “too big”

In that moment, that ship was the heaviest burden he had to carry.

In the Last Jedi, he realizes it’s himself and his grief that is the true heaviest burden, and it’s this girl who helps him lift it in the end.

But he dies. People know the legend who stood down the First Order with a laser sword,
But no one saw the broken man who died alone on an island, because he pushed everyone away.

When Rey shows up here, Luke doesn’t know why she’s here like an all knowing force ghost,
Rather a legit, human, reaction of “What are YOU doing here?”

And instead of the mentor giving the answers the hero needs,
Rey provided Luke with closure he needed.

A lightsaber he kept for someone who would continue his sister’s journey, that he wouldn’t have been able to pass on if Rey hadn’t shown up.

And of course, giving Luke a chance to prove he could do what he couldn’t do before, lifting that weight off of himself, with the help of a friend who reminded him he was good enough.

As Rey leads the Resistance to Exegol, people point out “That’s Luke’s X-Wing”

For most of the thousands who showed up to help in the battle, they’ll never know that Rey was flying the X-Wing,
But will remember hearing General Finn, proclaim

“Red 5 is in the air”

Recognizing it as the X-Wing of Luke Skywalker,
As rises from the ashes, and shows everyone the way out of the darkness.

For me that, is the Rise of Skywalker.
