M1 iPad Pro: The Truth… maybe skip it for now

So, the iPad M1 is a beast of a machine that actually might be too good for its own purpose.

It does everything at the speed of doing a rail of white lightning at the back of an arbys parking lot - but at the end of the day, its still an iPad running an OS that is still limited.

since this has (up to) 16gb of RAM, its no shock that pro level apps may be coming to the iPad, but there is no promise for that -- and you should NEVER buy a product for what MAY happen in the future.

the XRD display is quite possibly the best looking display I've ever seen -- but again, that depends on how you use it. in normal use case, you won't *really* notice a difference. When viewing HDR content, thats where the XRD Display shines its best.

I bought my 12.9” M1 just to watch movies and videos. That was what I used my old 2017 10.5” for 99% of the time. I did get a Magic Keyboard which allows me to web browse and do some productivity vs my old setup. I have a 2017 15” MacBook Pro that I rarely use, my iPad gets the most use out of any device in the house. The M1 processor is completely overkill for my use case, but that wasn’t why I bought it. I have the 5G version and get 3x the download speeds on T-Mobile. I still have a grandfathered unlimited plan and can watch 4K YouTube and movies on the go.

I got the 12.9” M1 version because it replaced my 2011 Lenovo laptop. I could have saved $150 by going for the 12Z but just like my Lenovo laptop, I plan on owning it for as long as possible and the extra $150 for the M1 will easily get me a decade worth of use.

I know I could have saved money by getting a MacBook Air but I am reading books/manga on the iPad during my free time. It’s more comfortable to read on a 12.9” iPad versus looking down at a MacBook screen.

I had the 2017 iPad Pro 10.5 which I sold a say before the spring loaded event. Now I have preordered the 2021 iPad Pro M1 12.9. This is a huge upgrade. I have an estimated delivery date of June 3rd to 10th and is now preparing to ship. I can't waittt

Completely agree and I like what you did with the speed demonstration with opening apps. Only to then turn around and say yeah that’s last years model… Plus I completely agree, it’s always better to have more speed because why not? but then to what end? You can only open the same apps so fast. So unless Apple really starts to make changes to iPadOS and it’s app availability to really push the M1 hardware then you’re just strapping a jet pack to a shopping cart…
