So lesson for us all. Buy new, keep it well maintained and keep it until it collapses into a heap of rust. You may only ever have to do it twice or thrice in your life.

I had that experience with the multiple heavy guys turning up to check it out when I sold my first car when I was 20.
The TITLE of the ad on ebay said NO TAX (back when tax was transferable). They said that they didn't know it had no tax, and wouldn't pay the full price, but also refused to leave empty handed as they'd travelled a long way. I was intimidated so I took the seriously reduced offer. They then took the whole VC5 and said they'd do it when they were home, and then immediately drove away with no tax or insurance

Congratulations on getting to 20k followers you have worked so hard for it. Thanks for this video it is eye opening, for me selling a car privately is a nightmare these days I’d rather lose a small amount of money dealing with WBAC or a main dealer.

I knew someone who left their 7 seater for 2 months at an airport car park in London. Came back and car had been used as a shuttle whilst they were gone. 250 miles on it and returned with an empty fuel tank.
They denied it point-blank despite marks on the cream leather and no fuel. When the folk landed the car park personnel couldn't find it.
Presumably because it was out on the road being used. This happened only a few weeks ago.
Watch out which car park you are using and don't leave it with a car park that you have to leave the keys with.

Foolishly I fell for the last one many years ago. I sold my Jaguar and the “buyer” sent me a cheque. Once the check had cleared I contacted them to say they could make arrangements to collect the car. The car went and the cheque was a forgery. I found out a week later when I went to withdraw the money the bank told me it was a fake. There was a police investigation that followed and I never seen my Jag again.

I am very very cautious now and echo the sentiment if it’s too good to be true it usually is.

2 blokes came to see my tdi, saying engine was making noise. I explained that it was a diesel and that was normal. I then told them to jog on. Both guys spoke little or no English and were obviously dealers.

I’ve been looking for a van, eBay seems to be rife with scammers, vans that should be £10, 000, 1 owner low mileage, being offered for £4, 500 but never sold anything 0……. All scams when emailed money up front, really wish eBay could be proactive and stop it.
Great advise.

This happened to myself. 3 Romanian guys turned up one distracted me while another put oil in the water and disconnected sensors. Lights came on during the test drive when I asked them to leave it got scary! I recommend anyone to sell via a legitimate company!

I bought a van from a dealer of cars of dubious history, in North Wales. A few months later I had a fine from the Tyne tunnel, but I had a full alibi for where my van was at the time.

I went round to the Police, to try to sort the problem out, and the serial number on my car matches the number on my paperwork. The Police were not interested, saying that I had to get Swansea to sort it out.

A fer months after that, I had another fine, from a pub car park in Gloucestershire, but I know that my van was blocked in the car park where I live, by a scaffolders vehicle, at the time. I sent the information to the car park people, trying to prove that the vehicle was in two places at the same time, as I thought that might be easier than proving that it was not where it should not have been.

I also sent the information from both fines to Swansea, who were not interested the first time, and they sent me a letter to photocopy, and send as a reply to any more fines.

Luckily I have not had any more fines, and those two were written off for me. I think that the Police should do something about this, as it is a crime, so they are the first point of contact. Swansea said that it is a Police matter, and the Police say that it is a matter for Swansea.

I've been trying to find a car between £10k and £15k for the last few weeks.
I'm sure the tips in your videos have already saved me a small fortune by not buying dodgy cars. Thanks.

Thanks, I used to sell my cars privately, but not worth the hassle any more. Mind you WBAC are notorious, they give you a price, you turn up, and they knock £1000 off, because it has a stone chip.
Sold a car on ebay once, the buyer, a dealer turned up with friend, complained about all sorts, I said it is as advertised, no price reduction, you bid on it, and won, that is the price, I insisted on cash, and they eventually paid up.

Just had the oil in the coolant scam, they robbed 1.5k from the cash pile too. I've reported it to the police as fraud.

Very useful info. I had the shipping agent scam attempted on myself for something as meagre as a £20 photo tripod I was selling. When I said I wasn't prepared to get involved, can I deliver, I heard no more! Scams everywhere.

I had a bad experience selling my first motorbike when I was 18. Two big guys came jumping up and down on the bike laughing and intimidating me as much as possible. Said it was nothing like the Ebay photos and wanted a massive reduction or they'll leave me bad feedback. They won and I sold it for half the value. Learned a hard lesson that day. Don't be bullied like I was folks.
