GLP-1: How Different Fats Impact This Key Gut Hormone with Dr. Ben Bikman

One of the most talked about gut hormones today is GLP-1—known for its significant metabolic benefits, including appetite control.

Dr. Bikman notes a study that examined how different types of fats—saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated—affect GLP-1 response, particularly when consumed with a baked potato. The study revealed that saturated and monounsaturated fats nearly doubled the GLP-1 response compared to polyunsaturated fats from refined seed oils.

Interestingly, when these fats were consumed with a baked potato, the GLP-1 response was completely negated. This finding underscores the complex interactions between different types of fats and carbohydrates in our diet and their impact on metabolic health.

The Effect on Glucagon, Glucagon-Like Peptide-1, Total and Acyl-Ghrelin of Dietary Fats Ingested with and without Potato; doi: 10.1210/jc.2009-2559 ---- "Potato ingestion resulted in an increase in GLP-1 area, but this was not statistically significant when compared with water. The GLP-1 net area responses after ingestion of lard, olive oil, and safflower oil were significantly higher when compared with the net area response after ingestion of the respective water, potato, or potato + fat meals. Interestingly, the area response after olive oil ingestion was greater than after lard or safflower oil ingestion. The net area responses after potato and potato + lard, olive oil, or safflower oil were positive and not different. All were higher when compared with the area response after water ingestion, but this was only statistically significant when any of the fats were present."

Any research on eating only eggs and GLP1?

So you're saying the bulletproof coffee I was having when I kept losing weight was about more than forcing my body into using ketones as fuel? Might go back now lol

I'm going to try an experiment. I'll eat a meal of just bacon to see if it blunts my appetite. I may try other single food meals.

I make ground meat portions:
Beef, beef tallow, pork with skin, pork liver, chiken meat without bones with skin, eggs, salt, black pepper - grind it, mix it, freeze it in a plastic bags 500 grams each.
Easy to throw it on a pan, fry it, eat it!

lots of room echo on the audio - perhaps mic closer to mouth, or another room, would help

It would be nice if the butter was included in that study.

But it seems like olive oil alone is a winner.

Actually, here in Turkiye which is an olive oil producing country, people drink olive oil first thing in the morning to ail many health issues. So it makes sense now when i see the study.

Since the Dr. Bart Kay drubbing last week I'm more sceptical of Dr. Bikman this week and that makes me sad.
