China's Plan to Beat the U.S. Back to the Moon

China just broke NASA's space walk record by 12 minutes while working on their Tiangong space station, an important step toward their goal to have their taikonauts walk on the moon by 2030.

China has a consistent plan to land someone on the moon by 2030. NASA originally planned to go back in this year, but now they're saying 2027+, which, in theory, still happens 2+ years ahead of China. The difference is that China tends to meet their estimated dates, while NASA keeps slipping the schedule. We'll see.

I feel like the motivation of these 2 countries are complete opposite. China is motivated to innovate and do stuff while the US only does stuff because China is "trying to beat" them. The International Space Station is only 280 kilometers away from the sea level of the earth. The stranded astronauts have not yet been able to return. The moon is 380, 000 kilometers away from the earth. In 1970, the Americans shot three astronauts and two golf carts to the moon and back. Do you believe it or not?

The Tiangong space station is smaller than the aging I.S.S., but it's much more modern, much more elegant, and much more sophisticated. The I.S.S. is experiencing leaks; its decommissioning can't come too soon.
