I wasn't expecting the improvement on lens sharpness to be so significant especially considering the first version is already very sharp. Not only is it a serious contender on the E mount, I suspect that either the Panasonic 24-70 or the Leica 24-70 are as sharp.

As a mostly prime shooter I have the Sigma 24-70mm Version 1 for emount as sometimes I need a zoom. I honestly have not seen any reason why I would upgrade as I think I have used my version 1 a total of 8 times in like 18 months and its still one of the best 24-70's I have ever used (and I have used about 7 over the last 20 years). For a lens that is cheap, does not suck my bankaccount dry like a GM or L lens and basically sits in my drawer all the time, its the best lens. Great video as usual Matt.

Warning to anyone considering buying this lens that you don't hear from YouTubers... It zooms the wrong way. I have the G1 and it definitely causes frustrations and missed shots. You may find it ok if you don't have other Sony zooms, but if you have 3 or 4 others like I do - it's going to affect your ability to shoot quickly on insincts. Image quality is definitely great and price is amazing, but I do think I would have chosen the Tamron or GM if I had known. It's very understandable that someone who reviews and goes between systems all the time wouldn't notice...

Great review and excellent balance between tech info and actual use. I also wondered about why Sony allows that good of a lens from a third party that competes with their own product. I imagine there are a significant number of pro shooters that go with SONY GM to get the full FPS potential from the camera. I think that is how/why they allow it. Very smart to hold back one feature for their own native lenses.

Some of your G1 files suffer from camera shake because some are sharp and others are not. It's not the lens
