M4 MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, and iMac Coming Soon!

Apple will update its MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac lines with its latest M4 chip later this year, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.

Writing in his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said Apple is preparing to upgrade every Mac to the new Apple silicon processor generation. Following the launch of the M4 iPad Pro in May, Apple will continue the M4 transition with the above mentioned Macs, and complete it with updates for the MacBook Air, Mac Pro, and Mac Studio in 2025.

I recently purchased a base model Air 15" M3 but decided to return it and managed to purchase a MP 14" M1 16GB 512GB (with 7 cycles) so basically new and unused! So happy with the change in purchase, as I was previously still using a mid 2013 Air 11". Such an upgrade and from a spec standpoint, I feel the M1 MP is still a beast in the back end of '24.

My M1 Max Studio is still satisfying my 3D Modeling and Photoshop/Lightroom needs. But faster is always better! On the road the M1 Mac Book Air with remote 1TB SSD works just fine for my needs.

A few years back in 2020 I switched to Mac when it was still Intel. Then and now, I only really need something to do productivity and collaboration, mostly Excel, OneNote, Teams (3-5 hours of video calls all day) and a browser. I had the Intel i7 Mac mini, but jumped to the M2 Mac mini about a year ago. I tried the 8GB model but found that I was running low on memory when I'd dip into Davinci Resolve for light video editing, so returned it within a week and ordered a 16GB model. The M2 is the quietest desktop I've ever owner (the Intel was loud, especially during Teams calls thanks to embedded Intel graphics). I have no need to upgrade, I doubt I'll ever push the M2 8-core, or it's 10-core GPU, to any sort of limit. Being honest, if the M4 Mac mini has additional Thunderbolt ports and built-in SD card, I might be tempted to consider, but I'm otherwise intent on keeping the M2 and happily watching the onslaught of new M-generations keep coming, until I NEED to upgrade.
