So, exactly what is logic? What's it for? How do we use it in philosophy, maths, computer science? And how should you go about learning it?

This is part of a series of videos introducing the basics of logic. If there’s topics you’d like covered, leave me a comment below!

The series so far:

Great video! I would love to see a video specifically on symbolic logic as I will be taking it next semester. It seems difficult but I’m sure it will be interesting.

I've learned a lot from your videos—thank you! Would you be willing to share the software/process you use for the "chalkboard"? :)

Great job man. I prefer the videos like this one without music in the background - the music is a bit distracting. Just my two cents!

07:25 I'm a little bit confused about this argument and after replaying it a few times and thinking about it I think I get it but I'm not sure. Does it go like this;
- All truths are knowable.
- Truth P is unknown.
- Truth P is a truth.
- It is possible to know that P is knowable.
- It is not possible to know that P is knowable since we do not know P and thus it cannot be proven that it is knowable until it is known?
Or did I misunderstand? :)
Thanks for making these videos, I'm really excited to watch the rest! :D

Is there a methodology for reading symbolic logic; I will be thankful to you!

In you first example you say that Anna will go, but is it not certain that Cath also will go, or it all depends on IF Anna goes? haha, I don't know if I make it more difficult than it has to be.

I would point out, in your argument about "all truths are knowable", that temporal modal logic would solve the contradiction. Because the unknown truth would only be unknown up to the time that it was known. After that you know it, but from now on, that truth that was unknown will be known. So from then on, you known a truth that is known. Contradiction solved.
What your argument missed was that truths can change from a state unkown to a state of known.
Supposing my argument is valid, would that prove your argument invalid or just that it is valid in the limited scope of propositional logic?

Dislike
I was hoping that you give some idea what the heck "Symbolic Logic" is.
But you just rant about one or two things from SL.
