FENIX A320 - Approach Planning & Managed Descent (Vnav) | Tutorial Series Part 6

Welcome to the sixth video in a new series of tutorial videos taking you on a full flight from Manchester to Prague. Each of these tutorials is designed and based on real world procedures used by A320 pilots around the globe to make your flight simulator experiences as realistic as possible.

Episode 6:- In this episode, we look in some depth how we plan to fly the approach and provide the aircraft as much information as possible in order to get an accurate decent profile (Vnav). We also look at constraints and how these work in the MCDU, as well as looking at performing a landing performance calculation.

A few additional handy (maybe) tricks for the F-PLN in the MCDU (Gavin probably knows them anyway, but a few viewers might not):

1st: Remember the "AIRPORT" button below the F-PLN button on the MCDU. It jumps the flight plan down to your destination, so you don't have to scroll down that much if you're checking/modifying/entering an approach.

2nd: You can add constraints right at the flight plan by typing in "x/" or "/y" or of course "x/y" in the scratchpad and then press the appropriate RSK for the waypoint with "x" being the speed and "y" being the altitude constraint you want to set.

A simple “like” can in no way justify that value of the information you are handing out in these tutorials. You have made my journey much more fun (and complicated) :-)

Great tutorial as always. Another, maybe for some people more easy way to calculate the landing weight would be to go to "FUEL PRED". There you will find your ZFW weight. Just add the fuel left at the destination and you will also have your landing weight.

Fantastic tutorial everytime I watch a stream or tutorial I learn so much.

Very clear explanations ! (old TRI/TRE with 25.000flight hours...)

A third way to reduce weight before landing is to throw all coffee pots in the draining sinks, wich just goes overboard.. that also creates those nice stipes of coffee underneath the fuselage.. ;)))

* translate * mi amigo excelente tutorial, la claridad de tu voz, la excelente manera de explicar todo, son cosas que hacen de este tutorial el mejor que haya visto del A320 de Fenix, muchísimas gracias por este tutorial, excelente contenido.

Thanks very much Gavin watched and followed every episode now many times over. Had a perfect flight today and everything came together. The biggest problem I had was the secondary flight plan but thanks to you I have got it at last using the add on for eosid. Feeling fluffed up now thanks again😊😊😊😊

Excellent aircraft and excellent pilot lessons in your video.

Very helpful videos thanks Gavin.

The problem I have with this aircraft in VR is that looking at the EFB then moving elsewhere in the cockpit really plays havoc with WMR and motion reprojection. Hopefully one day someone will fix this but in the meantime I’ll struggle on with non immersive workarounds lol 😂

Since release I've only been flying the Fenix. It's gorgeous and not sure I'll ever switch back to the A32NX 🤩

I currently use FBW for the A320 but Fenix seems so much more detailed and more things to plan and prepare for, is it worth the money?

Wouldn't it be easier to figure out your landing weight by just taking ur zero fuel weight and adding ur landing fuel to it? Great tutorials btw.

These are great videos and I appreciate your time and patience. I flew the 'Bus for a year at Spirit before my present job and love keeping my hand in it. I flew my first flight from AVL to MCO yesterday and things went very smoothly. One issue I had was with takeoff performance calculations. Trying to pull data for AVL I was unable to select a departure runway. Is there a list of airports with available data for takeoff and landing performance calculation published?

Great tutorials buddy. You figured out, what I was looking for, especially descent and landing. My landing rates are always bad, when I land manually,

So on touch down you do idle and reverse thrust but i see other pilots do idle at 30 feet altough i believe og idle at touch down will make a more stable and smitter landing whats right correct me if you will😅

I have been flying the Fenix 320 for a while now and followed A320 Si mPilot's videos as well as yours. however, NONE tell me how to get the V-Speeds on the EFB! I can do the departure performance - which gives you the speeds to then set in the MCDU - but on the arrival performance page, whilst I do everything you have just described, how do you get the actual landing speeds calculated? At the moment, I'm using the speeds shown on the PERF/APPR page, but as I get closer to the landing, I find that the CLN speed shown on the initial calculation check, has changed! So I guess I am asking how do you arrive at the correct landing speeds (V-speeds) ? Do you do the calc on the EFB and transfer them to the MCDU or do them in the MCDU ? Thanks

I watched this video without watching the videos before this one. Doesn’t the entry of of FMC data such as the Approach phase values such as arrival airport QNH, wind, bardo etc belong in the topic of descent planning?
