Narrated Masriq:

`Abdullah bin `Amr mentioned `Abdullah bin Masud and said, "I shall ever love that man, for I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, 'Take (learn) the Qur'an from four: *`Abdullah bin Masud, * Salim, Mu`adh and *Ubai bin Ka`b.' "*

...Their disagreement was brought to 'Uthman, so he said: 'Write it as At-Tabut, for it was revealed in the tongue of the Quraish.'" Az-Zuhri said: "'Ubaidullah bin 'Abdullah bin 'Utbah informed me that *'Abdullah bin Mas'ud disliked Zaid bin Thabit copying the Musahif, and he said: 'O you Muslims people! Avoid copying the Mushaf and the recitation of this man. By Allah! When I accepted Islam he was but in the loins of a disbelieving man' - meaning Zaid bin Thabit - and it was regarding this that 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud said: 'O people of Al-'Iraq! Keep the Musahif that are with you, and conceal them. For indeed Allah said: And whoever conceals something, he shall come with what he concealed on the Day of Judgement (**3:16**1). So meet Allah with the Musahif.'" Az-Zuhri said: "It was conveyed to me that some men amongst the most virtuous of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) disliked that view of Ibn Mas'ud."*

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:

`Umar said, *Ubai was the best of us in the recitation (of the Qur'an) yet we leave some of what he recites.'* Ubai says, 'PI have taken it from the mouth of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and will not leave for anything whatever." But Allah said "None of Our Revelations do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten but We substitute something better or similar." 2.106

Abu Harb b. Abu al-Aswad reported on the authority of his father that Abu Musa al-Ash'ari sent for the reciters of Basra. They came to him and they were three hundred in number. They recited the Qur'an and he said:

You are the best among the inhabitants of Basra, for you are the reciters among them. So continue to recite it. (But bear in mind) that your reciting for a long time may not harden your hearts as were hardened the hearts of those before you. *We used to recite a surah which resembled in length and severity to (Surah) Bara'at. I have, however, forgotten it* with the exception of this which I remember out of it:" If there were two valleys full of riches, for the son of Adam, he would long for a third valley, and nothing would fill the stomach of the son of Adam but dust." *And we used so recite a surah which resembled one of the surahs of Musabbihat, and I have forgotten it, * but remember (this much) out of it:" Oh people who believe, why do you say that which you do not practise" (lxi 2.) and" that is recorded in your necks as a witness (against you) and you would be asked about it on the Day of Resurrection" (xvii. 13).

Chapter: Becoming Mahram is established by Five Breastfeedings

'A'isha (Allah be pleased with, her) reported that *it had been revealed in the Holy Qur'an* that ten clear sucklings make the marriage unlawful, then it was abrogated (and substituted) by five sucklings and Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) died and *it was before that time (found) in the Holy Qur'an (and recited by the Muslims).*

Abd Allah b. ‘Abbas said:

‘Umar b. al-Khattab gave an address saying: *Allah sent Muhammad (ﷺ) with truth and sent down the Books of him, and the verse of stoning was included in what He sent down to him. We read it and memorized it.* The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had people stoned to death and we have done it also since his death. I am afraid the people might say with the passage of time: We do not find the verse of stoning in the Books of Allah, and thus they stray by abandoning a duty which Allah had received. Stoning is a duty laid down (by Allah) for married men and women who commit fornication when proof is established, or if there is pregnancy, or a confession. *I swear by Allah, had it not been so that the people might say: ‘Umar made an addition to Allah’s Book, I would have written it (there).*

It was narrated that 'Aishah said:

*“The Verse of stoning and of breastfeeding an adult ten times was revealed1, * and the paper was with me under my pillow. When the Messenger of Allah died, we were preoccupied with his death, and a tame sheep came in and ate it.”

1: These verses were abrogated in recitation but not ruling. Other ahadith establish the number for fosterage to be 5.

One thing that should be mentioned is that just like the messenger of Allah, mohammad (PBUH) was chosen by the almighty to finalize the religion, and lead the society, Allah had also chosen the 12 leaders (as promised by Allah to Abraham (pbuh) in the Bible Genesis 17-- 20 about Ishmael's descendents) of the society, after the Messenger past away. starting with Ali ibn Abitaalib, and 11 of his descendents, to gradually lead the people out of the ignorance that they had lived in for centuries. But most Arabs ignored that part of Islam, and a couple of hundreds of them chose Abubakr, and in turn HE chose Umar, and Umar chose an assembly of 6 people to choose one from among themselves...and that's how Islam's teaching was not allowed to be implemented fully to bring human beings out of ignorance and into perfection, as it was supposed to accomplish. The group that chose the first 3 people who took over the leadership of the society, eventually came to be known as Sunnis, and the people who believed Ali and the descendants of the prophet (through the daughter of the prophet, married to ali) were supposed to succeed the prophet, (as revealed to the prophet, and mentioned many times by him), are called the shias.
