To Americans, war is a spectator sport far away. Even when we participate in a war, it's not real to us. Even when I was deployed to Afghanistan, war was a place. Afghanistan was the war place where the war was. When I came back, the war stayed there.
28, 000 dead out of two million in Gaza. 9/11 killed just under 3, 000 out of over eight million in NYC. The death toll in Gaza has been nine 9/11s worth in a population a quarter the size.

Regarding the hostages, surprised you don't mention how Netanyahu has repoeatedly stated that once they have all the hostages they will attack again with the aim to wipe out Hamas, thus giving Hamas literally no reason to give up the hostages as it will just mean even more intense attacks.

By the way, the first time Netanyahu said this it was during the first ceasefire when lots of hostages were being released, which is why the ceasefire ended.

PS my mum a holocaust survivor who saw her father brutally murdered and she all her life denounced what was going on in Israel as an untenable solution to an untenable problem. Her name was Eva. 1 million people in 24 hours means evacuating 42, 000 an hour. That's seven hundred people a minute. Imagine standing on a spot on a road leading south from the north of Gaza. How quickly would everybody have to move if they were to pass you at the rate of 700 a minute? If there were 7 roads available, that's still 100 people would need to pass you in every minute. That includes toddlers, old people, sick people...

The repeating ‘But do you condemn Hamas’ title is very on point, it is amazing how any level of criticism of the bombing in Gaza swiftly gets turned into a combination of ‘so Israel has no right to self defence then?’ and ‘so you don’t condemn Hamas then?’

it's so concerning to me how many people use "they aren't killing enough people" as an excuse as to why this isn't genocide. apparently it's only a crime if you succeed completely in your goal, despite the literal definition saying in whole OR IN PART

It's funny you mention Star Wars, considering it's the story of a young boy that lives in a desert, who becomes radicalized into an ancient religion when his home is killed in a military attack and then performs a destructive terrorist attack on a military target after said target destroyed the homes of countless civilians in order to "crush the enemy at all costs.".

It's an obscure movie. Maybe the Prime Minister of Israel never saw it.

IDF headquarters is slap in the middle of a residential area. Also, Israel has REPEATEDLY been found to use human shields, but like literally. Soldiers standing with a gun to the back if civilians using them as cover to advance on a hostile position. It was actually IDF policy to do so, until they got caught by the UN, but they still regularly do it. U can find videos in the west bank of them doing it recently.
