Solar Power Satellites are one of those mega-scale projects that garner a lot of interest from companies that benefit from government contracts (Boeing; Bechtel; etc.) more than it does from actual utility companies. Where SPS becomes useful is for supplying power to the lunar surface. If there is going to be a permanent base on the moon outside of the polar regions they will need a continuous reliable source of electricity. SPS are one option to look at for that use.
