People seem to forget how heavily reliant China is to Middle Eastern Oil. That's the very reason why the US has heavy presence in the Middle East. If China tries to take Taiwan, The US plans to cut of China's oil supply and force Russia to share its reserves. Russia cannot produce enough oil to support both itself and China, and doing so will cause them to fail in their war with Ukraine.

To be blunt, this is when the US needs to - secretly - encourage the Phillipines to - secretly - hire a paramilitary contractor. Then the PMC personel just need to go out on regular fishing vessels and wait. When a chinese ship gets right up close to ram them, they alert the Phillipino authorities for backup and then the PMC personel all pull out RPG's or Handheld Missle Launchers and sink a chinese military vessel.
If it wasn't a national military who sunk their ship, they can't declare war, and shooting back would cause war with the US... would China risk starting that war right now given the state of their economy?
