How do you think this crazy situation was handled?

I saw a longer video on this - they tried OVER and OVER to get her to call someone. Gave her every opportunity to call someone. Then they find a cup of hers that had wine in it and she says it was from yesterday. Just lies and lies. So manipulative. Then wiped the cup clean! That’s when she got arrested.

As an alcoholic in recovery, I can say that this might be the best thing that could happen to her. She will be forced to face her demons and has a real chance of recovery, IF she is ready. Her denial doesn’t make me think she is quite ready to give up the booze, but the choice might be forcefully taken from her- she now has the eyes of the entire country on her and that is a large amount of people ready to keep you accountable! If this is her rock bottom I consider her lucky. I hope she can get into treatment.

I also saw the longer video. The people in the room were very kind to her, but clearly tried to set boundaries for what they would accept from her. Since she couldn't remember anyone's phone number, they offered to go get her phone from the classroom. She really didn't want them to go get her stuff from the classroom --- because maybe there was alcohol in the classroom? She was offering to go get the phone by herself... but.. the people in the room were not going to let her leave that room. She really freaked out about that.
She was so busted! And... they did keep the conversation going on long enough that most of the school had already left the premises to avoid having any of the children see her taken out in handcuffs. Poor thing!

Could not agree more!!! I’m sure she didn’t wake up one morning and decided to be an addict. Nobody does. Thank you so much for your empathy and compassion coming from someone who just lost one of my dearest friends last weekend. Amazing person. Just couldn’t overcome his past trauma and demons. Known him since I was 13. 37 now. You’re an amazing person ❤That made the fourth close friend I’ve lost to addiction. And not a single one of them were bad people. Had amazing huge hearts.

Your manner, delivery, and apparent empathy combined with your knowledge of therapeutic practice must make you an amazing counselor. It’s nice to see your compassionate yet pragmatic approach to these cases.

I'm so familiar with the paralyzing anxiety when you can't pick even something simple. As a recovering alcoholic myself, I hope she gets the help she needs to get and stay sober. ❤

7:59 The pen test is the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. Normally, if asked to follow and object with your eyes, your eyes will follow it smoothly. When very intoxicated your eyes will move jerkily while trying to follow the object. It's a standard component of a field sobriety test, usually combined with a balance test.

Also: this was the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.

I saw the entire video and they were more than kind and professional and respectful. She decided to play games with them because she thought she could hide the truth and maybe garner more sympathy. They also set the tone and boundaries and made it clear that they were not going to put up with any kind of B. Under the circumstances I feel they did what they could to try and help and the end justified the means. All addicts do this dance and ultimately fall on their butts. She blew a2.48 !! And they found alcohol in the classroom then she tries to empty the glass and got caught. Her charges are spot on. Schools have a zero policy for students as well as teachers. They absolutely have a right to fire her on the spot legally. They tried to get her to call someone and come in the next day several times. They tried to have her speak when she was more coherent I guess you missed that? She also admitted to taking a Xanax in the schools parking lot prior to class. So alcohol mixed with drugs. Around those children and on the road.

I feel bad for her, I usually never would. My 17 yr old sister was killed by a drunk driver a mile from home. I usually would be like screw this lady, but I just honestly feel sad for her. She needs help. She definitely doesn’t need to be in charge of kids and she definitely doesn’t need to be driving. Get her help. They have a tough job, very unappreciated, very underpaid. I don’t think I could do it for triple what they’re paid. I believe she’s mixing meds with the alcohol and that is extremely dangerous.

I want to thank you for being empathetic also. My Dad nearly died from alcohol. One day he quit drinking and smoking the same day, noone except me, his daughter believed he could ever recover or even be more than a vegetable. I had him as my best friend fir 18 years until his death. I had the privilege of finding out how talented and highly intelligent he was. Those were happy years for me. God had answered my prayers. I miss him but im thankful that i trusted God because he was so far gone that only God could help him. Alcohol addiction is horrible. As bad if not worse than other drugs as it is legal and accepted. I pray that good woman gets the help she needs.

i've been sober for 25 years. I have the utmost compassion and empathy for her. I believe she's at a stage where she MUST drink during the day order to keep the DT's away.

I was a functioning alcoholic and it took my rock bottom to get me where i am today. I really pray that this woman finds her way into the halls and gets involved with a Sponsor and does her step work her story will inspire others and maybe some day she will sponsor others if she can just get honest with herself.

On Halloween, in a costume, my niece and friends stopped for gas on the way to a nightclub. What they didn’t know was the station had just been robbed at gunpoint. The police 👮‍♀️ came in lights and sirens and blocked their car. With guns drawn the police instructed everyone to get out of the car. My niece was standing beside the car already frozen. They told everyone to put their hand up and move to a spot. My niece stayed frozen in place. The policed started yelling at her which froze her more. Her friend said she’s frozen having a panic attack, which was true (heart condition, also 21yrs old). The police approached her cautiously, checked her and helped her to get a seat near another officer. I thank G.od her friend spoke up and the police listened. The camera footage showed the car and robbers long gone so they were released, with a story to remember.

I'm sure this whole scenario is WHY you can't interview someone while they're drunk. It's clear, the Principal and the arresting officer both aware of how dangerous she is - to the children she's in charge of, herself and everyone on the road or pavement! As you rightly pointed out, she DROVE to school. 😮

to all the haters, ever ask urself WHY someone with “such a great life” wud do that? Before u think anyone u disagree with should be judged without sympathy just try and imagine reasons that WILL make you do the same thing they did, and if u cant understand it id reccomend not labeling someone but just think of the outcome you would want for yourself.

I am so glad to hear you speak about the anxiety paralysis. That example with the peanut butter made so much sense because it's something I struggle to tell my therapist that it's just the little things I struggle with when it comes to decision-making. It's amazing how you made sense in two seconds. Like you got us lol. I'll have to use this.
