When finding the area between two curves (like say the left half of the graph intersection), i wrote it as two integrals, and same with the right half. Then I realized I could evaluate the topleft and topright separately, and the entire bottom as one integral, so I was doing

1 2 2
∫ sqrt(x) dx - ∫ (x^2 / 4 - 1) dx + ∫ (2-x) dx
0 0 1

EDIT: Noice I got the answer

what if you dont know which graph is on top where?? since it may take an hour to draw the graph with out a calculator. we do not use calculators?

Hey Sal, ive been doing definite integrals for a long time but there is one thing i never understood: why is the antiderivative of a function equal to the area found by a riemann sum?

there is an obvious error when you integrated the right hand side area. the integral of 2 is 2x, not 3x. the actual area is 1.5units^2.
