How to be a good professor. When we look at how to be a good teacher or a good teaching professor, there are quite a few things you can do. But for me, it comes down to being Crazy, because...
Teaching is CRAZY
C: Care for your students
R: Real Examples that relate to your students' lives
A: Actual Experiences, share your or other's experiences relating to your topic to help students understand the topic better.
Z: Zeal! Have energy and care about your classes and presentations. If you are bored or boring it is even worse for your students.
Y: You, you can make 100% of a difference in your students' lives.

Dear Marketing Student, Entrepreneur, or Interested Person, I am Dr. Mark Wolters an Associate Teaching Professor in Business Administration and I have been teaching marketing and business courses around the world since 2002. I hope that these marketing & business videos can help you learn more about business and help you succeed in class or in the business world. And yes, this is the same Mark Wolters from the YouTube travel channel Wolters World.

Grab one of Professor Wolters shirts or other merchandise at

Microsoft Surface: We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.

Lights: Mount Dog 18’ Ring Light Kit. It will light up your filming space so your videos will look clearer and film better. We started using it and it makes all the difference.

Sony Alpha Camera: We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you film on location.

Manfrotto Tripod: We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Thank you Mark: As a teacher of 40 years I agree with you.
I have learned that the teacher learns as much as the student.

Holy crap Wolters world I started watching you 3 years ago because I wanted to learn German. I remember I wanted to psych myself up so I typed in "Germany" on YouTube, and your Berlin video popped up. It worked. Now I just spent the past 3 months in Germany and Austria as a bartender and I'm back in the States to finish my bachelor's and get an Med to become a teacher and your videos are AGAIN the first thing that pops up. I feel like my life has just come full circle. Thank you friend. You've had a great, and rather odd, amount of influence on my life.

When alumni get together we invariably discuss our favorite professors and two always pop up. It was obvious that both knew their subject matter inside out but they had very different teaching styles. Prof. A was super engaging, enthusiastic and charming. Prof. B was somewhat unapproachable and intimidating. B spent most of his time lecturing; however, he did ask for participation regularly to take a pulse. To be clear, B didn't let formative assessment dictate his schedule but he certainly knew when to slow down a tiny bit. I may not have loved Prof. B but I certainly appreciated him. Another fun video, Mark.

From some who’s been in both a teaching and learning position, I find it extremely effective to be understanding of your student’s or trainees situation. Use your classroom or workspace for both learning and work opportunities. Realizing these people have other classes or lives outside your classroom makes huge difference for you growing relationships with your students which can boost morale and motivate them. Another is a method I use to teach, is first demonstrate how to do it, then walk them through it, then let work on it with help when needed, then I finally leave them to work on it without me looking over their shoulder. I find this gives people the opportunity to see it work in real time, then try with supervision, then try it on their own with the comfort of a safety net, then learn to do it without feeling like they are being watched. Remember making people feel comfortable and that you care for their development will positively affect their performance in class or at work. Which for us benefits in our performance reviews. Being that professor or work trainer that’s hard nosed and super harsh with their class work will only decrease the quality of your relationships with your student and will carry a negative stigma towards your name in school and the workforce. Can’t tell you how many times people tell me about a teacher who they and every other student hated in college or the workplace.

Hello! I’m a senior in high school right now doing an intro to education course at a college. I have a presentation soon on the 12 virtues of being a good teacher, my word/virtue being Zeal, which is how I found this video! I just wanted to say that I will be using this video not just because you talk about zeal, but you yourself express it. Though I am not yet a professor/teacher yet, this video was honestly inspirational, which is why I subscribed!! :)

I'm a private tutor trying to get better at teaching and I absolutely loved this video. Even though I teach math this video is still incredibly useful. Absolutely fantastic video with great information, you're the man.

Professor, you are da man. You are teaching by example and real life experiences. Lots of folks out there have fancy titles have no real life experience. I am not being rude or putting anyone down. I am saying it as it is. Whatever you do, i dont have if you have 10 PHDs or JDs or other related degrees, if you dont have job experience & life experience, dont even bother. Learning and knowing are important and they do go together well, my 2 cent opinion.

Thank you so much. After 39 years in private Podiatric Medicine practice and having a gap year I’ve been invited to lecture 3rd and 4th year students at QUT. I want to inspire them and your CRAZY message is gold. Thank you so much.

As a student, I 100% agree with all of the information in this video. My 7th grade social studies teacher had 'crazy' down packed, and she was a fantastic teacher. The only people who didn't thrive in her class were the kids who didn't care about school. She frequently expressed that she loved us and she was always trying to improve her lessons.

Thank you so much for this! I'm an aspiring history professor and I want to be one of those memorable professors who makes a difference! I want my future students to spread the word of how good I am to the lower classmen. I want them to say "Dr. White is a phenomenal professor! Do whatever it takes to get in her class!" I want to inspire them! Thank you for these amazing tips! When I become a professor I will definitely implement these tips!
