Controlling Transparency with Alpha Curves

When you have partially visible pixels, such as after selecting and refining hair, you may want to change the opacity of certain areas. A way you can do this is by using Curves to control the Alpha channel. It's not difficult -- here's how you can do it.

Great tutorial but I don't understand how the alpha curves act if you try to nest it in a layer. It doesnt seem to work the same so you can't see how the cutout is masking to the background
