Dehydration: Do You Dehydrate While Sleeping? Drink Water Before Morning Workouts

Have you heard that you lose fluids at night while you sleep and so wake up dehydrated? If you tend to exercise first thing in the morning then this fact should make you reach for water or a sports drink before you go for a run or hit the gym. This video presentation examines the claim that you become dehydrated while sleeping, and whether you need to be worried about how this affects you performance during exercise.

It is not true that you need to drink 8 glasses of water a day and that you should do so whether or not you are thirsty. It is also not true that waiting until you are thirsty is too late. These are both myths. But hydration and exercise performance can be a bit more subtle than whether or not you are technically dehydrated.

I always wake up extremely thirsty in the middle of the night and in the morning despite drinking water before bed. I thought I may be getting dehydrated rapidly somehow which is why I looked up a video. Thank you for the video, it was very informative :)
