Benchmarking of the top Linux web browsers. Firefox, Brave, Vivaldi, GNOME Web, and Chromium are benchmarked against the new Microsoft Edge stable branch.

The time is here! There is now a stable version of Microsoft’s Edge web browser available for Linux. There have been beta and developer versions for some time, but the stable release was recently spotted in the yum repository hosted by Microsoft. If you’re interested in trying it out you can download the rpm package in Fedora or use the command line to upgrade in Ubuntu.

The saltiness in some comments. He's not saying Microsoft is better. It's just a browser.

It would be cool if they also supported the office suite

I guess GNOME would know a thing or two about handling Javascript.

I think its a good thing M$ is releasing software on Linux. I get the Linux is about feedom and opensource, but having proprietary software is a good thing for growth.

You DONT have to use proprietary software if you dont want to.

I just stick to Firefox so that the Chromium engine doesn't have a monopoly tbh

How come gnome web scores well in certain tests but in real world usage, its a laggy mess?

I ran edge on my pop os VM and it's already so much more responsive than the other browsers. The scrolling is choppy on all other browsers on the VM but not edge

I use Edge-dev across OSs for the sleeping tabs and vertical tabs; game changer for people like me with 50+ tabs open at any given time

Probably the first Chromium based browser that has DNS over HTTPS support in Linux.

Happy to see that Microsoft made a good browser after like 18 years.

I did a video on switching to Edge a few months ago, people hated me. LOL. Very upset about it.

Personally, moving from Win to Linux 15 years ago was to get away from Microsoft. I won't be letting them in the back door with Edge. Plenty of FOSS privacy browsers to choose from.

I would consider to use it, if it wouldnt feel so "alien" on my system.
Firefox, Gnome-Web etc just have a "more native" UI. Edge looks like it's from another world, the UI from Edge just doesnt feel right on Linux.

I tried out the dev release months ago, and noticed even then how snappy performance was compared to chrome and firefox.

I don't know what's worse: Edge owning all foss chromium browsers or Mozilla doing its best to suck at every possible task...

I use Brave, Its the only browser that takes privacy and security seriously while also paying the user for adverts viewed. I moved away from microsoft because of the privacy issues why would i bring this to my linux setup ?

I'm surprised that GNOME Web did as well as it did. I didn't expect that.

the most interesting part of these benchmarks are gnome web's scores
Javascript is faster than any other browser while it fails miserably at everything else
if the webkit devs have been putting all their effort into Javascript perf then I guess their efforts paid off, I hope with some more time webkit will catch up to the big two in the other benchmarks
