Microsoft Edge Is Objectively Better. But No One Wants It.

Most of us remember Internet Explorer as the browser we use to download other browsers, especially Chrome. And, this is not surprising given that Internet Explorer was truly a crappy browser that Microsoft pushed down everyone’s throats. However, the same cannot be said about Microsoft Edge and particularly the Chromium version of Microsoft Edge. As the name suggests, this version of Edge actually runs on the Chrome platform meaning that it has all of the same bells and whistles that come along with Chrome like its massive webstore. However, Microsoft has also added their own unique twist to it by incorporating a bunch of Microsoft-specific apps like Office and Outlook. Microsoft has also successfully made Chrome objectively snappier and much more efficient especially if you have a large number of tabs open. But, despite all of these advantages, most people don’t even consider Microsoft Edge as an option due to their memory of Internet Explorer. This video explains why Microsoft Edge is actually better than Google Chrome and why people are reluctant to switch to Edge anyway.

I think one more reason for edge lagging is that most of the users are used to having Chrome on their mobile. So Chrome on desktop just becomes a default choice.

We need to take a moment to acknowledge how incredible of a CEO Satya Nadella is. He made really good moves for Microsoft and is currently on a streak

I've used Edge since I upgraded to Windows 10, which was after Chromium Edge, and I've stuck with it since. It's a fantastic browser honestly.

As a previous web developer, I can say IE lack of conformity to web standards made it a pain to build websites that would view correctly in it. Always had to add extra code for IE stuff.

The Edge Exclusive features are all great aswell. Some are:
- math solver
- quotation formatter
- read loud
- have pen input in pdfs
- opening office documents in browser

migrating all my data to firefox was the best thing i ever did
especially now that chrome (and chromium based ie edge) browsers will stop supporting ad blockers

The fact that Microsoft Search forces you to use bing and edge makes me not only want to switch from edge but also switch from Windows

I used edge for a while for the vertical tabs, and while you can change the default search engine, that doesn't apply everywhere. when you highlight text, it gives you the option to search with bing before anything else. new tabs also still use bing for the big search bar in the middle. the search in sidebar feature also always uses bing.

I switched to Edge when it went Chromium-based and am really happy with it, vertical tabs makes for more screen realestate. It’s definitely improved over the years with new features as well.

The biggest reason I like using Edge is the Read Aloud feature. It’s so nice to open an article and have the browser just read it to me, usually while I’m doing other things. The voices are actually really good as well, very human like as we’ve come to expect from things like Siri and Alexa.

One more reason is that Edge literally spams you when you open it. Be it popups, notifications, anything else, it just spams you.

I was using Edge when they launched in win 10. That was is great migration. With the copilot launch in a few months, I am now frequently using it for pieces of advice summary.

Also a large reason for why a lot of enthusiasts and developers didn't and don't like internet explorer is because it didn't follow web standards and instead just makes up its own stuff meaning if you wanted to make your website work on IE you'd need to add extra non standard code to support it

6:36: Google didn't want to challenge Firefox and Microsoft. They were afraid that Microsoft would make it hard to use Google on the desktop by outbidding them as the default Firefox search engine. And that browser would make changes in their codebase to restrict their ability to monetize users. Then came Chrome which would guarantees roughly they would keep direct access to the user.

I used the new Edge when it was in development and LOVED it, but within 3 months of it becoming the new default Windows browser, it was all about distracting and obtrusive cash-grab features, and most of the lightweight peformance started to fade. It turned into Microsoft Chrome instead of its own thing. I'm very happy with Opera now.

I've been a Firefox user since before Chrome even existed and I see no reason why I should switch to Edge. Every major browser becoming Chromium-based gives Google a monopoly over web standards which is bad for the web. Firefox and Safari are all that's preventing a total monopoly in this space. Plus Firefox is still a great browser!

No, I do not plan to switch to Edge. However, I also don't plan to use Google Chrome either and I do agree Edge is a better option than Chrome. So unless Firefox hits the bed for some reason I will stay here enjoying the wonderful browser by the Mozilla team.

I find it funny how powerful public groupthink is. All you have to say is "Edge bad" and you get a standing ovation.
I switched from Chrome around 3 years ago and immediately noticed a difference in speed and RAM usage. I would have switched to something sooner, but I really do like the extensions.
Chrome could be 2x slower than any other browser and people will still blindly use it...

There's only one thing that's keeping me from using Edge, two actually: first is that it's giving me access to a lot of tools I would never need, and need to customize it so that it never shows them to me again, and the second is that, as someone who has to do a lot of reading, that white edge on the left border of my screen is super annoying!

As a Web developer, I remember when Chrome first debuted. It was everything I had ever wanted: lightweight, adaptable, secure. I had never liked the resource-hogging Firefox. Today, Chrome is the resource hog, and has the typical Google brick wall method of support. Edge is my daily driver. And I have warm feelings towards Opera.
