China has developed the world’s fastest and largest high-speed rail network, covering over 19,000 miles, most of which has been built in the past decade.

Japan introduced bullet trains in the 1960s, which can reach speeds of nearly 200 miles per hour. These trains have transported over 9 billion passengers without a single casualty.

France started its high-speed TGV train service in 1981, quickly followed by other European countries.

In contrast, the U.S. lacks true high-speed trains. Amtrak’s Acela line in the Northeast Corridor can reach speeds of 150 mph, but only for 34 miles of its 457-mile route. The average speed between New York and Boston is about 65 mph.

California is working on a high-speed rail system, but its completion as originally planned is still uncertain.

I was on Italy 2 months ago. I was on an intercity train and an American couple sat down next to me, they started chatting and the woman said "Amtrak is disgusting, this is a dream".

They suck, because oil, auto, and airline industries have all lobbied against trains.

A huge issue is that freight trains get more rights than Amtrak trains to the tracks which causes most of the delays.

I was taking an Amtrack to NYC and it broke down for 6 hours because of "a flat wheel". They wouldn't let us off and also did not have food service. They gave me credit to buy another ticket. Gee thanks...

The US isnt the richest country in the world. Our politicians are the richest in the world and thats a big part of the problem.

Elon: "you must build tunnels under the city". Dude, ever heard of a metro or subway system?

Thanks to the Shinkansen lines, I was able to visit several cities in Japan in just 10 days when I visited the country last year. Over 70% of Japan is mountainous and the Japanese still made efficient public transportation. There are no excuses for the US.

Guys guys guys hear me the HELL OUT: build multiple train networks in the US to decrease dependence on cars. Trains will be chosen instead of cars increasing economy of scale, convenience and reducing environmental damage. And trains have more personality than electric cars ever will.

For us car enthusiasts, driving will be a hobby, not a necessity. This means with less cars on the big roads, speed limits can be raised and we can have the highways all to ourselves!!!

Bruh I’ve seen third world countries with better public transportation than the US. Towns in the middle of nowhere have busses made from vans connecting other small towns together multiple times per hour all day long. Meanwhile in American the only time I had good public transportation was the school buss when I was a kid

Let’s have an infrastructure bill which doesn’t contain any infrastructure policies. Yeah, that’s great Biden.

You forgot to show how car companies are also keeping America from having better rail infrastructure

It's stuck in the stone ages because a bunch of lobbyists and rich people want it to stay that way

Awesome video, but we have to be honest. The Francis Scott Key Bridge incident wasn’t due to poor infrastructure, it was due to the laws of physics. No bridge on earth is stopping a runaway container ship that size dead in its tracks. Anyone who’s ever seen a full sized container ship fully loaded up close will know exactly what I mean. You’re not stopping something that big, that heavy and with that much momentum.

I am so glad that this is being brought to everyone's attention more and more, how neglected America's rail network is compared to the rest of the world, and it's soul crushing dependence on cars; which is a very anti-human way to build a country.

America is the richest country in the world and currently has less highspeed rail than places like Romania and Serbia, that is so truly disappointing

In the private sector, there’s company called Brightline that’s doing well. They are only in East Florida right now. They have a line that runs between Miami and Orlando. Brightline is the only privately owned and operated intercity passenger railroad in the United States.
