The system was designed at a time when there weren't places like walmart or amazon that could run into a town, drive competition to extinction, then leave when their profit goals weren't being met, screwing everyone in town.

the system was built to be like this, it can be torn down and rebuilt better. people like you don't care until it affects someone close to you.

Problem is big corporations right the market to crush competition, then collude to scalp customers. I.E. the big 4 meat corporations artificially working together to raise prices.

The greatest transfer of wealth has happened last four years. They want ma and pa stores to shut all by design. It's going to get worse.

Failed business plan if u can’t pay your employees a living wage. wtf is wrong with people

$15 a hour is nothing. That's was an entry-level factory wage 40 years ago.
A small business doesn't mean a broke or cheap business. Nobody hires someone for $15 an hour unless they can get $40-60+ in return.

the only reason the are not paying less than 7.25 is they are not allowed to.

My retirement is poverty level.. I paid in like a good citizen. Social Security only went back 2 years after 34 years of being a HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL!
I'm 68 now - I retired for POVERTY? Not what I planned-

Sorry, I have to pay my bills. If small business owners can't pay what I need to survive then I am forced to go to a competitor who can.

Nope … not everyone has the desire to work retail. I have seen kids who want to work for restaurants leave one restaurant with higher wages but poor management for jobs with lower pay for better management. So it isn’t always about the pay! 💰

At most Walmart locations, a 16-year-old employee will have the position of a cashier or front service clerk. In most cases, the pay for these positions ranges from $8 to $14 per hour. There are some positions that require a minimum age of 18 years old.

The problem with the market determining the rate is that we can't afford not to work. We can't say no we won't take 8 dollars because we may not get another job offer for months. The corporations keep jobs to a minimum so that we don't get the convenience of choice. Which is the opposite of free market

It's all about control. If they shut down the small businesses then the big ones can up the price and control you.

Walmart pays 15 dollars, not in S. E. Montana. Here they pay overnight stocker 20.00 per hour starting and they stock during the day because Walmart closes at 11pm

I agree as well but people can not even live off of $15/hr. It's just not possible in this country anymore to live off that. So what are we to do, businesses can't afford to pay it & employees can't live off it anyways so what do we do next?!?!

Of course, capitalism leads to monopoly where they will eventually cut your wages to lower than a local store would have.

I had an economics professor in college who worked for the Kennedy administration. He told us two things about raising the minimum wage.

1. Higher minimum wage equals higher prices. Period.

2. Unions love higher minimum wages, not because it provides a higher floor for their workers or because it helps poor people, but because higher minimum wages lead to more automation and their members are more likely to have work building and maintaining that automation.

That's not capitalism that's corporism.

15 an hour?
If a business can’t afford 15 an hour for a worker, it’s just a bad business plan.

I've been saying this for a long time, big corporations that make billions in profit can definitely afford to pay $15-20 an hour, small family owned businesses don't have the same resources as these corporations. The diner down the street isn't doing stock buybacks and putting their profits in the cayman islands.

If you cant afford to pay your employees a livable wage then you shouldn't be in business. Sorry but thats how the world works
