It is not weird at all, if you think that silver atom just like steel is magnetized by the magnetic field. its spin can changed by the magnetic field it was in. that is not weird at all.
And it did not have the spin left/spin right/spin up/spin down at the same time, the spin is depend on the magnetic field he is in.
