I think something nice about trains is that they take longer and are often not cheaper but you take it for the view and for the added comfort (most of the time they seem to be way more comfy than a plane as a big and tall person) plus the added the perk of no TSA and bag check to go through which adds a lot of stress and at least for over planners like myself add easily 2-3 hours to a flight. If I go back to Orlando I really want to take this.

For those who decide to drive between South Florida and Orlando, be aware that Brightline will benefit you as well, due to less traffic. Anyway thanks for your honesty, Magical Hijinx.

Brightline is fooling people in Florida, & must make their investors money. The bigger problem with brightline is its slow, due to partial shared track, but it's slow overall, in comparison with modern inter-city connecting rail networks like the ones all over Asia, & Europe that go 180mph & more making it another defeat, & an underdesired option, that forces us to use cars again or fly due to the time & cost savings. Brightline would have benefitted slightly more if the track was a dedicated right of way, & faster like TGV or shinkansen speeds along the whole rail network, because it would increase travel, & tourists would use it, because anyone could be in Disney, take a trip to Miami for the day, & be back in Orlando area that same evening within <90 minutes that's how fast true exsisting high speed rail goes in Europe, & Asia.

Brightline will fail or lose money, because the amenities are just smoke & mirrors for a slow, & possibly unreliable service in the future if ridership doesn't increase but it won't because it costs too much.

Since I'm commenting several months after your trip, I found that some fares are extremely reduced depending on the time of the trip. I'm not sure if that was the case when you traveled.

Thank god they escorted out a hooligan such as yourself. Feel so much safer 😂

Best objective and informative video I've seen for this train service. You make a lot of good points.

Wow, I can't believe they escorted you out. That's ridiculous to do to a paying customer. I've never seen that happen at any other train station ANYWHERE!

There is absolutely nothing mysterious or sinister about the pricing differentials. The airlines have been doing this for decades. This is something that I would expect an experienced traveler to know.

I live in Los Angeles. Most days, I can fly to NYC, cheaper than to Fargo or Indy or Nashville. At least a dozen airlines can take me to New York, whereas only a couple go to the smaller markets. The system has much more capacity for the NY route, so supply/demand dictates a cheaper fare.

And yes, even on Amtrak, your fare could vary according to the time of day or which day of the week. And how far in advance you buy.

Yes, your flying time from MIA to MCO will be less. But this is a silly argument, all around; for an airline, you can't just show up 10 mins before departure and step on to a plane. This train has no long security lines, and you don't have to remove your shoes. You won't have to check your bag, or pay $30 for it. Even for coach passengers, no airport terminal has such a nice waiting area.

Me, I rode the premium class from Miami to Orlando a couple of weeks ago. I booked my trip a week out, and paid the regular fare. I wasn't chained to my seat; I could walk around all I wanted. I chose the train because it's an entirely different experience from planes or cars. Unlike a plane, I had plenty of room to spread out my workspace and get a lot of work done. (Even the Smart class had this option.)

I loved (almost) every minute of this trip. I was disappointed in the inexperienced and poorly trained crew (almost inevitable for such a new operation), but at least they were friendly and honored my requests. I plan to return a year from now; and when I do, I will expect the system to have these small issues smoothed out.

As for you getting escorted out? Again, not unreasonable. They need to keep the traffic moving. You could have called ahead, and they would offer you all cooperation. I know because I did just that.

You prefer Uber? Or an airline? Clearly, you have the power to make a different choice next time. But from where I sit, it seems silly to complain.

Well, you being escorted out in the manner you were just soured me from ever taking this mode of transportation if I were to visit that area of Florida. Furthermore, the drastic price difference that doesn't make any sense is not a good look for Brightline. Thanks for all you do to deliver us this important information

So what if the prices are higher on same day booking? If you book same day on a plane they are much higher too, same with Megabus

Great Video! Im headed to Universal Studios before visiting family on Palm Beach for Christmas next month. I booked a trip on Brightline from Orlando to WPB and this video gave me a great understanding of what to expect. I booked a late Friday afternoon premium ticket for $149 and I think it would have been comparable to me having had to book a rental car and drive to Palm Beach myself. I love the idea of being able to relax in the lounge & on the train without the stress of driving.

I wonder if they're trying to recoup construction costs by charging such a high rate. Where I live we had toll roads built with private bond money. When the toll roads opened they were considered pretty pricey for the area (I'm from NYC so I thought they were quite low/reasonable, hah!) but, now that the bonds have been repaid, they actually lowered the cost of using the toll roads to encourage more people to take advantage of them.

A bit of an "If you build it, they will come" mentality. The flights are cheap because we've already got the infrastructure to allow small airlines to operate at low costs without having to do the upkeep to the infrastructure of But if this is an all-in-one company that built the train lines, stations, routes and now owns and operates the trains privately, then that's a huge investment and the prices (unfortunately) make sense. I just hope that once they've recouped their investment, and there is more existing infrastructure, the cost goes down as demand rises. Only time will tell, but fingers crossed!

Hey! There are plenty of coupons online such as buy one get one free for a whole month and 25 percent off as well as first class for only $119! For a whole month. They have been doing this for awhile now and fluctuating prices are the norm when it comes to travel. It’s all about demand and how many tickets are sold during certain times it is computerized. Seeing you shocked is kinda funny but this is the world of travel we live in. Compared to last minute air fares and competitors it’s a worth while bargain.

Still more expensive than Amtrak. I take a 4 hour trip on Amtrak and pay $50 one way. Brightline has good prices for certain leave times for basic seat. Cleaner and more on time than Amtrak since they own their own tracks. Better food to.I would like to see brightline expand to cover every state and long term travel and sleeper cars. America has the worst public transportation system. Time to move up to Europe standards.

Though I agree that the Brightline tickets sometimes may be a little bit more expensive. Saying that a $50 flight would be better could also be wrong because there could be a lot more fees and if it’s gonna cost you the same as a Brightline ticket or more, then it all depends on what you would wanna do.
