I will admit Blood Hound's Fang is technically quality but it scales so much better with dex, so I included it here
Feel free to disagree, this is just my experience form playing this game way too much.
apologies for the audio quality.
Hope you enjoy the video

Me playing strength faith build using lightning spells oblivious to the fact they scale off dex.

There's actually a decent thematic lore reason why lightning is associated with dexterity, and indeed why dexterity doesn't feel like previous incarnations. See, usually dexterity is the "cultured" side to the more brutish and physical strength, when it comes to dealing physical damage. But in the Lands Between, strength was greatly valued - so it never fell out in culture - and the various magic stats represented high culture. What dexterity actually represents is the midway-point - when the beasts gained intelligence, they gained extra fingers which allowed to work tools, create civilisation, lose their wildness and start taming nature - seen most prominently in the Farum Azule, where dragons and beastmen wield primal lightning.
Strength is for warriors; intelligence is for scholars; faith is for nobles; arcane is for outsiders; dexterity is for beasts.

Making mind increase casting speed makes so much more sense than dex increasing its speed

My biggest gripe is not having a seal that scale naturally off dex like the clawmark seal for strength, fundamentalist seal for faith/int or dragon communion seal for arc

Bloodhound fang carried me through early and mid game destroying everything in my path with relative ease. Into late game I found myself going to respec because nothing else came close in damage with my build. I eventually settled on pure int when I got the dark moon great sword, omg that thing is amazing.

I hope in the dlc they add a lighting weapon that also scales with faith. As well as a sacred seal that has dex scaling.

Seems like I'm the only one complaining about it but here goes: it was really hard to understand you in this video. Not because of the subject material but because of your enunciation and cadence. There were a number of times I had to go back and try and figure out what you said. Even turned on Cc and they got a lot wrong. Sorry if I'm coming off as a douche/hater. I only comment this in case it was a blind spot for you. If you're already aware and/or something you can't help then just ignore me and my apologies. Great video for subject material! I learned a lot and will be using dex differently because of this video.

I understand this feeling so well. I tried running a vanilla DEX build so many times, no bleed and no heavy weapons. People complain about thrusting swords a lot, but with vanilla AR and no status effects, using powerstanced thrusting just doesn't cut it for the game.
After 700+ hours of experimentation, I finally used the Ornamental Straight sword. It does everything I wanted in the game; it gave me a magic spell buff, it's a longsword category weapon, it has powerstanced thrusting sword jump attacks, 110 crit damage, a high commitment multi-hit R2 that you can change the timing for, and it deals *amazing* poise damage. It made gameplay so much more unique and fun than just spamming jump attacks, or standing R1. I think Ornamental Straight Sword is the perfect example of what a Dex weapon *should* be; weaker AR in exchange for incredible maneuverability. I could not tell you how much fun it was to move around my enemies using all the tools in my moveset to whittle them down until their guard broke for massive crit damage

Dex makes more sense for lighting scaling. The only reason we associate faith with lightning is dark souls, in that games lore Gwen is the lightning God basically so faith and lightning go together.

Putting that association aside, lightning is traditionally more closely associated with speed (i.e. "swift as lightning, speed of light" etc..) dex is the speed/agility stat.

Plus dex is the weakest stand alone offensive stat so lightning scaling really helps it be useful on its own (still only shines as a hybrid stat imo)

So yea I basically agree with everything you are saying lol

There are a lot of weapon types focused on dexterity that makes sense. Certain types of swords, whips and flails are good examples. It is probably because I have the most experience with Faith builds that I have not experienced this.

Funny thing, I actually switched to a Dex focused build from an Arcane build recently, to test if weapons with innate bleed would do better with Bloodflame Blade. Suffice to say, you're video is spot on. Occult infusion out did everything against Keen and no amount of buffing made Bloodflame Blade worth making a main stay, really just an add on for other builds to have a bit of bleed going. I switched back to Arcane, reworking my original numbers, and I can't believe I tried switching in the first place.

It's weird how Bloodhound's Fang and Guardian Swordspear are so good compared to, like, all other DEX weapons. And I don't know why the Gravel Stone Seal doesn't scale with DEX.

“Luck was the equivalent of Arcane in the Dark Souls games.”

Deep breaths. Take deep breaths. Nobody needs to know. 😅

2:18 Makes sense to me, great swords and other long weapons are more about dexterity than strength (as long as you have enough strength to lift them). You need to control and move their weigh around to use them properly. Short sword are more about strength, they're small enough that you can quickly move them around so the goal is more to strike as fast and as hard as possible usually with less technique.
Same for the fact that it hasten spell casting, you need dexterity to quickly move the staff the right way.

Main reason to level DEX is to be reach a requirement

I would love a video like this talking about each main stat. You put into words a feeling I had but had not identified! I feel like now that I know this I could properly enjoy dex without being annoyed that I can't play a rogue with it.

You're one of this only other creators I've seen talk about this and it's really gratifying to see other people notice how weird this design element of the game is. Elden Ring is one of my favorite games of all time, but it is a bit strange sometimes. I hadn't thought about the conflict of interest in dexterity granting increased casting speed, although to be honest with the way builds in Elden Ring work I wouldn't be displeased if they had just taken that out entirely.

I think lightning scaling with dex makes alot of sense

Strength + faith = fire

Dex + faith = lightning

youre kind of right about the godslayer's greatsword ash, it does scale mostly off dex but not purely, it does also scale with faith.

The queens black flame is interesting because it’s one of the few ashes that’s based on attack rating, so it does benefit from dex more/at all

While the black flame tornado ash of war is faith, so I can see why people would be confused
