Jesus the Royal Priest

After humanity’s failure as the royal priests of Eden, God promises that one of their descendants will intervene on their behalf to restore the blessings of Eden. Throughout Israel’s story, God raises up leaders to be this royal priest, but they all fall short. But their stories point forward to the ultimate royal priest, Jesus. In this video, we’ll explore how Jesus is the ultimate king and priest who invites humans back into Eden so that we can once again take up our calling as God’s royal priests.

Wonderfully done! There's another bit that foreshadowed how Jesus is meant to be the royal priest that I really liked.
It's done with the gifts of the three wise men. The first offers gold, representing Jesus' status as king, The last offers myrrh, showing that Jesus was meant to be the Living Sacrifice. The 2nd king, offers frankincense, representing Jesus's role as a priest forever.

Jesus’ baptism is rich with imagery from the Hebrew Bible and connects him to the royal priesthood. Just as the Aaronic priesthood had been consecrated or set apart through water (Leviticus 8:6) and anointing oil (Leviticus 8:30), Jesus is also partaking in this ancient ritual through his baptism. Jesus is anointed with water and Spirit in his consecration—his setting apart for his role as a priest (Isaiah 61:1). And as the Spirit comes upon him, Jesus is revealed to be the anointed one of God (i.e. the royal son of David, Psalm 2:7) who is going to ascend Mount Zion (Moriah) (i.e. the seed of Abraham, Genesis 22) to surrender his life as a sacrifice for the sins of his people (i.e. the servant of Isaiah 42). 

Jesus is commissioned as royal priest, and after this revealing moment, he begins to fulfill his role as priest for his people. A key example of this is in Mark 2:5-12 when a group of men lower their paralyzed friend through the roof of a house to get him to Jesus. Jesus forgives the man’s sins, echoing the pronouncement made by the priests in the Jerusalem temple (e.g. Leviticus 4:20, 26, 31, 35; 5:13, 16, 18, 26). 

Jesus’ pronouncement makes clear that he is different from any other priest Israel has seen. Jesus is offering divine forgiveness by his own authority. Jesus refers to himself as the Son of Man who has earthly authority to offer divine forgiveness. His words are poignant, combining the royal and priestly motifs already present in the son of man figure from Daniel 7 and attributing to himself the divine authority to dispense God’s forgiveness. Priests operated by delegated authority from God, but Jesus operated by his own authority.
