THIS. THIS is what happens when manufacturers are not tested. THIS is why I will never buy a car that hasn't been tested by the IIHS or met their exact standards. Unfuckingbelieveable that cars designed as early as 2003 fare better. Holy hell this is atrocious.

When IIHS doesn’t do crash tests on large SUVs, some automakers like Ford tend to leave important safety features that are found from other smaller cars out for stupid cost cutting, which leads to an unsafe experience, but other manufacturers thought safety is the key selling point so they carry the technology over to larger SUVs

This explains allot. I saw the aftermath of a Mercedes E Class that had gone slightly head on into a new expedition. The E Class had crumpled but the drivers door had no damage and opened just fine. The expedition looked like it got sliced with a hot knife...i guess engineering over sheer size won that battle.

Then you'll realize how uncommitted Ford is to proper safety designs EVEN AFTER a decade+ sharing Volvo's safety knowledge.

Scary stuff - that has me driving Volvos to this day.
