Auto Translate YouTube Video into your Language

YouTube now allows you to Translate any YouTube video into your own language. This is a game changer for anyone speaking a different language or needing subtitles in their native tongue.

YouTube will auto translate the video and present you with auto generated captions, even when the original uploader doesn't add the language you need. I love this feature and it's an incredibly powerful accessibility feature.

OMG! All of these years I wondered why YouTube could not translate videos into my own language. Now it is available, WHOO HOO!! Thank you.

I've watched 100 tutorials on translating videos and none of them have worked. The options just aren't there. Settings you speak of just don't exist on my end.

I clicked on a short Japanese video which already has both English and Chinese subtitles, and compared them with the auto-translated subtitles for both languages, the results were shocking. Not only the translations were totally out of wack, some lines didn't even show up. YET, when I tried the auto-translation for your video above, the translations were quite good. Maybe it works better only on English language videos.

not every YouTube video in foreign language has subtitle button to enable it, then what do you do with that ?

It only works if the creator of the video indicates the language in which the video has been made. If he doesn't do that, Youtube supposes the language is English and if the video is not spoken in English, Youtube cannot make automatic captions and translation will not be available.

I still have a problem. Some of the videos don’t have any
closed captions. What do you do with those with no CC available?

I really needed this for a school project thanks man

Nope. Not on "ANY video on YouTube", but as the YouTube Help Documentation explains "Automatic captions are available only in Dutch, English, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and Vietnamese."

This is a game changer!!! I have so many people that have requested my teaching videos on Canvas be translated into other languages but it was always too expensive for me. This solves that problem and allows people to view any content in their language. Accessible and convenient for both viewers and creators!!!

This is very helpful and did work on my new Samsung s23 phone when I put it in desktop mode. It does not, however, work on my Samsung tv which is also fairly recent. The screen is very similar to mobile. I did rectify by playing the video on my phone, then mirrored onto TV. Worked great!

It worked, thank you.
A wee note to say if the option to translate doesn't appear first time, exit settings, then go back in and it will show as that's what happened with me.

Thank you for this video. I just shared it on twitter because it was so helpful to me. I'm a huge fan of some German-speaking youtubers and this is just a game changer for me and my ability to understand their content more. Thank you so much!

HUGE problem with YouTube removing the public Subtitle and instead leave the Auto-Translate

- YouTube auto caption is never 100% correct, so it can be messed up
- Google Translate now is kinda messed up too, if a human that translate it, it will be so much better
- A normal person will add some creativity into their subtitles
- Sometime YouTube didn't detect language right, there's a common mistake when an english video can be detected as other language, like Vietnamese for some reason
- The auto translator will feels very off
- It has many cons than pros

I think YouTube removing the social Subtitle is one of the biggest mistake they make, beside removing the dislike button

You have no idea of how much you have helped me.You put the biggest smile on my face today. I have been watching foreign knitting videos for years trying to work out what they are saying. Thanks too much for this!😇🥰

When watching videos in other languages, I run into a lot of mistakes from the auto-generated subtitles (usually 1 every minute, depending on the accent and language). Realistically, in my experience the feature almost always gets words with ambiguous phonemes wrong, causing all generated translations to be completely off. When you get into translations for languages with a SOV structure, from a SVO structure, the auto-translate really shows its weakness. For instance, compound sentences. A very common use with native speakers.

I think this feature would have been a great pair to the community translations, but now they are forcing us to use poor translations (tbh I stopped using them all together), putting the burden right back on creators to create a solid subtitle base. I don't understand why Google continues to remove features that actually benefit the service.
