Roland Fantom-08 vs Yamaha MONTAGE 8: Sound vs Sound COMPARISON! Which one SOUNDS better?

As like with every other Montage vs. Fantom comparison - the Montage wins hands down for acoustic and/or "real" instruments - the Fantom wins for synthesized (synthesizer) instruments...

There is just no comparison. In every case, the Montage sounds much better. It's more realistic, professional and interesting. The difference is especilly notable in Acoustic and FM piano, which were blow-outs. That said, it is more fair to compare the Fantom-0 to the MODX+ in terns of price and size/weight (and the big Fantom to the Montage.) In this comparison, I think that the Montage/MODX+ would still win handily on sounds. But the Fantom-08 has a better action than the MODX+ and a more useful front panel. It also has a separate organ engine and can get option virtual synth engines for the Jupiter-8 and others. If you spring for the big Fantom, than the N'Zyme plugin competes with the Montage's FMX engine and the V-Piano engine would help the acoustic pianos a lot. It also has a great action and better panel than the Montage. DAW integration and the sequencer on the Rolands is also better.
So if the best possible internal sounds is most important to you, than go for the Montage or MODX+. As a MIDI controller or master keyboard with a great action and usable sounds, than the Fantoms might actually be a better choice for many people. Just be sure that you can live with the acoustic pianos on the Fantom-0 models.
