Both very nice. Something subtle about Yamaha that makes me lean that way.

To sum it all up the fantom is used more on tracks because of its compressed sounds. Not to mention they sound radio ready straight out of the keyboard. The Yamaha sounds good as well but for live events because the sounds are so amplified with eqs so it’s meant to impress right out the keyboard.

What a great time to be alive. So many choices ... all of them good.

I never met a synth I didn't like. They both sound great! You are fortunate to have both! An interesting video comparing sound engines . If I had to pick just one I have to go with the Fantom for work flow and incredible amount of features.

Yamaha had it over the Roland (but only slightly, ) up until the point of the Fantasia patch. That is definitely a Roland signature sound! All sounds after that, it becomes even a closer match!

Both are superb in every way. For me I would use the montage for the studio and the fantom for live work. The slight thinness and forward sounding Roland would project better sound wise in a band situation.
But it's down to personal preference as always.

You can't go wrong with any of those.
I had both Roland Fantom G8 and Motif XS8, they are amazing.
For playing live, I prefer Roland Fantom sounds that cut through the Band right out the box and alot of people praised the sound coming from it.
When I use Yamaha on the other hands, only a few give comment about it. It seems like Roland did a good job producing the sound engine.

Buying right now I'd pick Fantom, if only for the layout, sequencer, raw power and software upgrade potential. Both sound fantastic, and any sonic differences are not enough to make much of a difference other than side-by-side, in my opinion of course. We all hear and interpret things differently for different reasons.

This is what you get when the piano player is better than the instruments. So good!

I always prefer YAMAHA but fantom sounds amazing here

Both of them sound exceptional, this comparison the Roland wins as it is noticeably heavier in the bottom end and a bit brighter in the highs with just a little more character in the mids...excellent comparison video

this is fascinating; I won an old Motif, and played an old Fantom on tour; the Yamaha stuff seems more 'hyped', and the Roland stuff seems more 'realistic'... both pretty great...

There's something about Yamaha's that makes them ROCK solid. I have both Yamaha and Roland synths. I maintain the Roland Keybeds ALL the time, but the Yamaha synths lives on without a flaw, my oldest Yamaha is 33+ years old now, still rocks without a single keyboard defect.

That said - you will be SUPER happy with EITHER of the synths. You can literally create each sound similar on each instrument, they're both wicked advanced, 100's of menues to dive into, you'll be lost for YEARS, I pretty much guarantee you this.

I pick the Montage, more depth and the Piano's and E Piano's have so much more expression. I programmed over 1000 sounds for the DX7 back in 87'. Noticed your pic with the Moog 55. You program any patches? I am on Arturia's default sounds of the 55.

It's hard to choose, they respectively have their own great sounds. I think I just have to get them both! ;) Thank you for the demo.

Os Dois São Maravilhosos!!
Com o Fantom e o Montage no estúdio e um bom editor para EQ, Não precisaria de mais nada!

Here's a major difference: The Sequencer
- The Fantom cannot transpose the pattern in real time
- Montage recognizes real-time chords
This changes the workflow a lot - live !

As someone who repairs these for a living, I love both. They both are quality instruments.
