you guys seriously have to do a Christmas video this year, low light, soft focus, couple of guests just chatting in-front of a log fire with Jack whilst Dan noodles way on the piano freaking awesome!

The red keyboard on his left has the best piano sound in my opinion. It has a nice rich tone.

Interesting comparison. I agree with the conclusion. Montage and Fantom are Workstations, they can't fight with the enormous Keyscape Piano sound bank ( 200Gb I think). And Nord sound is also more natural. By the way, I love the pieces and the pianist. What is his name ? Dan Who ? What are the pieces from ? Especially the first one (played on the Roland and the Casio), with Bb - Bb/D - Fsus/C - Eb/G ... So nice. At 9:35 I think I recognize Nimrod by Edward Elgar. Again who is the player and were can I ear more of him ? Sorry Jack, I like You too of course

Conclusion: it’s more about who plays. This guy is an artist.

I did a blind listen and took some quick notes. There was a noticeable volume difference on the Nord (seemed quieter), and the Roland had a strange panning issue... seemed off to the R channel more than it should have been? Anyone else notice this, or is it just me?

I don't have the best ears, just wanted to share.

From my blind listen, I liked Keyscape the most, and Nord was close second but the quietness was hard for me to look past for some reason. Unfair, but I guess that's how the loudness war started, eh? haha

Great video thanks for sharing this with us!

Binghamz is a madman, kills it every time. I got the Nord Grand about a month ago and I gotta say videos like this went a long way in helping me decide. Thanks from Atlanta!

So what I'm learning is that I probably need to get Keyscape...

Fun review, which gave me a feel for which of these to test (shame there was no Kawaii or Korg, though). However, the test playing was over a very restricted range of the keyboard (no check for ring on of the high notes or resonance from the bass strings?) and didn’t test response to variations in velocity. How about another comparison, playing a more varied test piece?

Love that you can get the Casio, a laptop and some software for less than some of those keyboards. Still, it's nice to not have to boot up a computer and mess around with cables sometimes - worth the extra money, if you've got it.

I got the Nord Grand and was only thinking about the Keyscape as an alternative. I am extremely picky and there is still a long way to go before a digital piano reach the moon in order to sound acoustic, but the nord has a great sound and fits my workflow even though i have to tweak it at times. Their grand samples are still lacking, but their Upright samples really has something real in them.

Wow I liked Keyscape the best! Might have to get that VST eventually. Very impressed.

Hey guys I love your vids, and the playing of the both of yus. I'd only mention that these machines have different purposes, Fantom's a workstation, Montage is a Synth beast, the Nord Stage is the ultimate nord stage piano, and the casio is not even a controller-only. Would make more sense to put the best controller for piano action with the Keyscape, the Yamaha CP88, and the best Roland stage piano. (Sorry Korg has no place here lol)

from 7:14 to 7:22 Oh my .. I don't know how to decribe how I felt. It was a feeling I have never had, so moving. I just learned those chords after that.

Bb > Bb/D > Bbadd9 > Gm > F > C/E > EbM7 > Ebm69 > Bbadd9/D

Wohooo!

Jack. I love your playing too. I watch your playing videos in youtube. If you make another video can you play these chords?

Thank you!

The Nord sounds nice but it sounds more like an EP to my ears, not a bright concert grand. I like this format of comparison. Please consider doing another one of these blind tests and include the Kurzweil K2700 against other similarly priced models ($3k) from Yamaha, Nord, Roland.

I think Jack tried to mention subtlety, but the Montage and Roland are different beasts from the Nord Grand. They both have piano centric models for comparable prices with action designed to feel like a grand piano. I mean I'm not faulting the comparison becuase now piano centric players will look at maybe a CP over a montage. More rounded players might prefer the compromise action of the Montage though

Not sure it's reasonable to gauge the action of the Montage when it's visibly bouncing around on the top tier of a stand - the best key bed in the world is going to feel bad when it's supported so unstably.

Funny editing! And thanks for the nice outro!

At 12:15 host asks player about software latency. I don't do Apple. I use PC. I use NI Akoustik Piano software. If one is experiencing latency on PC, download and install ASIO4ALL driver. Learn how to adjust the driver buffers down to failure, then raise them up just enough to stop the glitches. I have <8ms latency with off-the-shelf PCs including Core2-duo, i3, i5, &i7. I am using onboard sound - typically Realtek or Conexant. There is no excuse for suffering >10ms latency.

Roland sounds terrible directly after the Nord. I play Pianoteq driven by a Casio PX-150. According to this video, it's a reasonably good choice. Glad you brought up the issue of weight. The contest is about who can make the best action that weighs the least and is easy to transport.
