This Is The 2023 Volvo C40 Recharge on Everyman Driver

Already one of the most sophisticated small coupe SUVs on the market with an all-electric powertrain providing it with over 200 miles of emissions-free range. This advanced system suits Volvo’s forward-thinking attitude and carbon-cutting ethos, and the C40 Recharge has a gorgeous and modern cabin for five. All interior materials are high-quality, and Volvo includes driver-assistance aids to help in the daily commute. The extra weight of the battery limits the Volvo’s agility on the road, and the non-EV C40 costs thousands less. Still, the Recharge delivers impressive range and comfort with a Scandinavian appeal.

The Volvo C40 Recharge is a great example of future-driven design. Volvo wanted to set themselves apart from the hectic looks of their competitors. Perfectly Swedish, the exterior has an angular-panel look that is modern. It adds a sloped rear roof, making it Volvo’s entry into the popular Coupe SUV silhouette category. The interior is tidy, covered in high-quality materials with a suite of driver assistance features. Its 402-hp powertrain provides superb acceleration and up to 208 miles of driving range, and all-wheel drive comes standard for extra peace of mind on the road.

I recently transferred to a Volvo dealership and so far this is one of my favorite cars on the lot. Doing all the training currently, and I can add that with built in Google and Android infotainment software, many updates will be available over time making the Volvo a great choice for people who like to keep it fresh.

There is no “non EV” C40. It’s Volvo’s first EV only car.

Hybrid is fine. All EV scares me unless EV chargers become faster in charge time.

Thats right...once you go EV you never go back because you will be stranded on the road unless there are enough working always available charging stations everywhere.

All these companies that talk about going all electric in a few years are going "DISS" a huge group of people. Apartment dwellers and renters who are not able to wire-up a landlord's property. Another obvious "great divide" between the rich and the poor )-;

No less than 300 mile range. Anything less is nonessense. They have the technology. Even Tesla said, anyone can use their technology if they wanted?

It's EPA range is 228 miles but Volvo under promises but over delivers with real world range of 250 miles.

Put 100, 000 miles or more on any ev and the resale value will be 0 because the battery will be worn out from thousands of charges.

Awesome car and review!

In these comments, it's interesting how hard people go out of their way to hate on EVs. In 5 years almost nobody will want a relic, nasty ICE vehicle for regular commuter vehicles. For heavy towing and other specialized uses, ICE will still have a few more years, but that will also quickly wane as battery technology improves.

The EV sales acceleration is going hocky puck and it's unstoppable now.

How does insurance on EVs compare to ICE vehicles?

I think this is a 2022 as 2023 removed the contrasting black roof. Minor detail in the title.

How long does the average charge take from empty battery?

The shape is growing on me... I think.

Interesting car…but for 2023, the roof is no longer blacked out…thoughts?

Why not do a segment on synthetic fuel? If you use the right synthetic fuel you will leave less of a carbon footprint than an electric car.

Scandinavian style? I thought Volvo was a Chinese company now

DO NOT buy this car! I did and they have a steering column vibration at highway speeds, the batteries are too heavy over the front axle) and VOVLO CANT FIX IT! Wait for the 2024 they shift the bulk of the battery to the rear and take weight off the front axle and fixes the vibration problem. Also you get 31 miles more range that is HUGE. I got the C40 and only have 547 miles on it and am looking for Vovlo to take mine back. They have admitted they cant fix the problem. I am going to fight to get them to end my lease after only 1 month and I will wait the 6 months to get the 2024 model. Also know that the C40 is a HOT car with that panoramic roof that has no cover- I will get the XC40 in 2024 with the sun roof and an electric slide cover- keeps the car much cooler. Also the AC is good but not great- it has to blow LOUD and hard to cool the car. Everything else is fantastic.

I think that the smart person would find electric cars abhorrent. Makes no sense and is bad for the environment, not like you’re made to believe. The materials are from places where there is child labor and many deaths as a result. It’s also dangerous because the batteries can explode in a bad accident. Takes forever to charge and the distance it can go before needing to charge is way less than a Ford Fiesta by 150 miles.
